NEWS LUTHER WILLIAMS WAS GUILTY, JURY DECIDES 9 1919 Luther Williams, colored, at his trial in Ardmoore yesterday was found guilty of robbing the mails. F. Griffith, his brother-in-law plead guilty. The case arose in Haskell last May Williams carreid the mail from the post office to the depot and was some times assisted by Griffith. Much mail disappeared in and nearHaskell and after some good work on the part of Ed Corbin and a post office inspector, Williams was arrested and his residence searched.

Clothing of all sorts was found in the place much of which was identified bv Haskell people as theirs. A. F. Roselle and Harold Dodson were witnesses against Wiliiams and Ed Corbin and S. P.

Beard were also at the trial -0- GOT $50 and 30 DAYS George Murray colored, who took a pot shot at Gafford and Leslie Kelley some ten days ago drew a fine of $50 and 30 days in jail before Justice Edwards for carrying a gun and was then taken to Muskogee to wait trial on a charge of 'assault with intent tokill. DOGS ARE HUNTING THE COVER THIS EVENING Starting at 1 this afternoon, the city officials, declared this morning they were going to declare war on stray dogs. Dogs running at large hit the town of Haskell must have a 1919 license tag and be muzzled. Dogs without both tag and muzzle will be shot. All dogs belonging tofarmers must be chained to the vehicle while in town.

FIRST FOOTBALL GAME FOR The first football game of the season is planned for tomorrow afternoon, when Eufaula come to Haskell. The teams playing represent the High Schools of each town. The game will be called at 3 o'clock on the base ball diamond at the west edge of town. MRS. C.

TEAGUE DEAD Mrs. Caroline Teague, a widow, aged 55 years died last night at the home of a daughter Mrs. J. T. Mashburn, 5 miles north of town after a short illness.

The funeral will be held this afternoon under directionofthe afternoon under charge of the Rev. Pennington with burial in the Haskell cemetery. DR. HILL TO BUILD A HOSPITAL IN HASKELL Dr. C.

L. Hill left Haskell last spring for Muskogee has about closed a deal for a location here on which to struct a modern hospital. Dr. Hill was here for a short time yesterday and left last night for Atlanta, on a visit with friends. The plans for the hospital include a modern building and a nursing staff employed and ready for patients at all times.

CINCINNATI WINNING FIRST WORLD SERIES GAME Reds over the Chicago White Sox in the first shows Ruether, the Reds' pitcher, cinching THE PAVING GOES THRU WITHOUT A LEGAL PROTEST FILED AGAINST IT The time limit to file protests against the proposed 38 blocks of brick paying expired last night. Only one protest was filed against it, that being for that on Broadway. The petition was presented the clerk by Irvin Blanchard and represents 27 lots on the whole miles long Broadway paving. It lacked by far of having enough to affect Broadway.

No other petitions against paving were filed, although one had been circulated against the one on West Commercial. The next step towards the paving will be to call for bids. The tentative date of October 20th has been set for the ocepng of the bids. HASKELL AWAY UP IN. THE PIG CLUB AWARDS Haskell certainly carried its share of honors intheDuroc Jersey contests.

In the Duroc Jersey hog club Haskell Groniger took first and Ovid Dustin fourth and Terry Smith fifth. Prizes for boars were Ovid Dustin first. Perry Smith second. Haskell Groniger, third Everet Groniger fourth. ALL WANTED HIM FOR ANOTHER YEAR---REV.

GAMBRELL REMAINS At a meeting of the church body the local Baptists voted 1o a member to call Rev. D. E. Gambrell for another year. Rev.

Gambrell has been in Haskell for four years and the coming year will round out a pastorate of five years. An unusual length for a pastor to stay in a small town and a tribute to Rev. Gambrell's ability as A preacher, and his worth as a man game of the world series was a shock the game by scoring in the fourth inning PAVING CONTRACT OCT. 20, THEN WORK STARTS If there is a satisfactory bid presented to the city council for the street paving at the date set for the opening of the bids, the night of Monday Oct. 20, it will not be before the latter part of November or first of December until some of the paving is completed.

Last Friday and Saturday a representative of the Gifford's Model Shows was in town and make all arrangements for the company to play in Haskell this week. Here it is Wednesday eve and no carnival yet. The company played here in the spring when it was so cold the attendance was very light.

For the last' week the fair has been on the weather has been idael and record breaking crowds has been the rule every day. For the last three nights it has ben estimated as high as 200 fair visitors walked the streets of Muskogee each night unable to get a bed Last night many of the hotels displayed signs on their front doors, "No And another thing that did not act favorable in Muskogee's favor were some rooming house proprietors who asked robbery prices for their room. There will be no other new faces in the Mr. Cantrell keeping the present force in his employ. His father W. A. Cantrell succeeds him on the route for a time at least.

HASKELL LOST TO BOYNTON BY A 4 TO SCORE A pickup team played base ball at Boynton yesterday and lost with a score of 4 to 0. A few cars of fans went a- long to see the game. COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT IN A SPECIAL SESSION. The Haskell City Council is to meet tonight in a special session. Business connected with the paving is coming up.

OPEN SEASON ON DOGS DECLARED WIDE OPEN At the council meeet last night, an open season on dogs was proclaimed. Dogs running at large without muzzles, whether tagged or not will be shot. Dogs with tags and no muzzles will be shot.

Dogs belonging to farmers must be tied to wagons or the buggies whilein town or left at home. 4 PAVING CONTRACT CALL WAS MADE LAST NIGHT At a session of the city coun. cil last night a call for bids on' the Haskell paving was made and ordered published for the next two weeks in the Weekly News. E. Hancock was appointed city attorney in the place of P. E. Gumm, who has located with the Muskogee, office. Charley Cameron and Roy? Heaton were called to Henryetta today toapppearaswitnesses in an auto stealing case; It is in connection with the the stealing of Mr.

Camerons Ford last spring. Edwards returned last night from a visit in Western Kansas and Colorado..
