For a quote call Coeur d'Alene Greyhound Park kennels will see a population increase this week as approximately 100 greyhounds begin arriving from the Multnomah Kennel Club in Portland, Ore. The greyhounds are booked with the Scott Delepine, Jack Bennett, William Rotta, Sunshine Valley and Dick Moran kennels at the Coeur d'Alene track. Multnomah wrapped up its 1988 season Sept. 10 and the new arrivals will be running in schooling races at Coeur d'Alene as early as Tuesday, according to racing director Bill Edge. A schooling race is an official race with no betting.

The race gives Judges a chance to view the greyhounds and provides the public with a past performance record in the racing program. Schooling races are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and days at 7 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene track. Along with the increase in greyhounds comes additional racing excitement as more Grade A and 3-8 mile distance races are offered. The added greyhounds also mean more competition for the top spot in kennel standings at Coeur d'Alene.

As of Sept. 3, Paul Paulk was at the top of the track's 16 kennels, while Vern Walker and J.C. Boyd followed in second and third place, respectively. Dick Moran plans to bring about 34 greyhounds from his kennel at the Portland track. 'Moran has one of the top kennels at Multnomah Kennel Club and anticipates a similar ranking at the Coeur d'Alene facility.

Trainer Lee Kopp says Moran has some excellent greyhounds coming from Portland. "We're holding up the bottom Of the Coeur d'Alene kennel standings), but we won't be there very long," Kopp said. Owner-trainer Scott Delepine says he'll be bringing about 40 greyhounds from the Portland track, several of which are 3-8 mile racers. The new arrivals will put Delepine's kennel population at 62 greyhounds. The Jack Bennett kennel will be bringing at least a dozen greyhounds from Portland, according to trainer Michael Sunshine Valley will be adding 20 to 25 greyhounds from its Portland kennel, including three or four 3-8 milers, according to trainer Jerry Tropf.

Some of Sunshine Valley's greyhounds are doing well at Coeur d'Alene, Tropf said, and he expects good performances from the greyhounds coming up from Oregon. William Rotta's kennel also plans to bring a few greyhounds from the Multnomah track, most of which are 5-16 mile distance racers, trainer Mike Rotta said.
