Skating Unsafe Cold Skating in the Newport area still is not safe, Recreation Commissioner George D. Donnelly said today. Tiie ice on the salt marshes on Hazard Road is only three inches and the surface is rough. Tiie ice on Big Pond is three and Inree quarters inches thick and smooth. Under slate regulations safe skating requires ice live to six inches thick ard of "clear ice type.

Another inspection of the ice will be made tomorrow.
