ALTOONA TRIBUNE, Monday, January 5, 1948 New Storm Moves On N. Y. As City Digs Out of Record Snow NEW YORK. Jan. 4-(P) Harried residents of the metropolitan York only now NEWS shaking off the crippling effects of a record snowfall and an ice and sleet storm, braced tonight for another buffeting from the elements.

The weather bureau predicted that the area- and Delawarewould be struck with four to six inches of snow beginning tonight. freezing temperatures and strong winds. Meanwhile, the weather bureau in Washington reported that storm developing in eastern North Carolina will deepen rapidly and move northeastward to the Delaware coast by 2 a. m. (EST) tomorrow.

In a special bulletin, it said there would be increasing northeasterly winds from Delaware breakwater to Block Island. R. reaching 40 to 50 miles tonight and shifting to northerly early tomorrow. Phone 2-8185 Andrews Seeks Blunt Reply On UMT Issue WASHINGTON, Jan. 4--(P)- Rep, Andrews (R-NY) will ask Republican leaders this week for a yes or no answer on whether the house is to vote this year on universal military training.

Andrews, head of the house armed services committee, wants to know whether his committee's training bill will be brought to the floor for debate- -and, if so, under what conditions. Andrews said in an interview today that he will write the rules committee asking clearance for the bill. He will send another letter to the house Republican steering committee inviting it to appear with him before the rules committee when the bill is discussed, he added. A new attack was launched on the bill today by the National Council Against Conscription. It issued a statement saying that an appeal issued by "18 educators, clergymen and other prominent citizensat is going to congress the measure be returned to committee for further hearings.

An estimated 90,000 subscribers in a ten-county New Jersey without northern, lighting facilities as utility companies mobilized some 7,500 men from five states for the repair job. An estimated 99.000,000 tons of snow fell on the world's greatest metropolis on Dec. 26, more than fell during the historic blizzard of 1888.

At least 17 persons died in the populous, northeastern states as the result of last week's ice and sleet storm, raising the toll since the first storm to approximately 100. Slight snow furries hit New York city earlier today while 728 men still worked to clear away mounds of snow. Meanwhile, what railroad officials called the biggest passenger rush in 17 years swamped trains here today as an aftermath of the two storms. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, at Roaring Spring, R. a son of Lester and Blanche (Ickes) Wentz. He had been employed as a machinist by the Hamilton Watch company in Lancaster. Surviving are one sister and six brothers, Mrs.

Mary Hammel, Hollidaysburg, R. D. Jesse and Roaring Spring: Russell, Washington, D. Edgar and Edwin, Lancaster, and Earl, in the merchant marine service. Mr.

Wentz was a member of the Albright Church of the Brethren. Friends Roaring are Spring, being R. received at of his sister, Mrs. Mary Hammel, R. D.

1, back of Chimney Rocks. DANIEL SCANLON Daniel Scanion, Gallitzin, R. died suddenly of a heart attack last night at 5:05 o'clock and had taught his Sunday school class at Amsbry Methodist church during the morning. He was born Sept. 30, 1872, in England, the son of David and Jane (Wild) Scanlon.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Mrs. Amy Nagle, Barnesboro, and Mrs. Jennie McClosky, Brockton, N. 14 grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren and one sister in England. Friends are being received at the home.

PAUL ALBERT AUKER Paul Albert Auker, infant son of Donald F. and Mildred (Voyzey) Auker, 514 Sixteenth avenue, Juniata, died Saturday afternoon at 3:55 o'clock at the Altoona hospital after an illness of two days. He was born in Altoona Dec. 29. 1947.

Surviving are the parents, one sister, Nancy, at home, and the paternal grandfather, Albert Auker, Greenwood. Services and interment will be this morning and friends are being received at the Jones funeral home. HARRY L. McMANIGAL Harry L. BURNS Robert C. Burns, last of the pioneer family of Allegheny township and lifelong resident of Burns crossing, Duncansville R. D. 1, died at the Altoona hospital yesterday morning at 9:45 o'clock. He was born at Burns crossing Sept.

25, 1871, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Harris) Burns. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Grace R. Burns, Duncansville, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Burns was of the Lutheran faith.

Todd, formerly of 528 Second avenue, died Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Hogan, 141 Windmere avenue, Landsdowne. She was born Jan. 25, 1872, at Duncannon, the daughter of John Westley and Mary Ann (Griffith) Pearce. She was married to Andrew J.

Todd who died Oct. 12, 1927. Mrs. Todd was a member of the Fifth avenue Methodist church and the Branches of the Vine Sunday school class. For many years she was teacher of the Martha Todd class which was named in her honor.

14, 1885, in Huntingdon county, the daughter of D. B. and Isabel (Richardson) Frederick. Mrs. Kunsman is survived by her husband, two laughters, and one son, Roy at home; Mrs.

Mary Alice Weiss, Gary; and Mrs. Anna Pauline Winklbouer, Sinking valley; six grandchildren and four brothers and three sisters, Harris, Altoona; Charles, Roaring Spring; John, Altoona; Howard, Todd: Miss Nancy Frederick, Mrs. Alice Albright, and Mrs. Lizzie Hardy, all of Sinking valley. She was a member of the Pentecostal church of Tyrone.

IDA ANN BRUNNER Mrs. -Ida Ann Brunner, 616 Sugar street, Roaring Spring, died at the Nason hospital morning at 9:10 o'clock terday, two months illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1874, at Curryville, the son of Daniel and Catherine (Gaul) Leidy. She was married in April 1899 in Hollidaysburg to Charles A.

Brunner who died Nov. 2, 1918. Mrs. Brunner was a resident of Roaring Spring all her life. Surviving are two sons, Harry P.

and Chester both of Altoona: one daughter, Mrs. Mary Oswald, three brothers, Harry, Water Street: Ira, Lakemont: and Calvin. Pitcairn: one sister, Mrs. Ella DeLancey, Greenwood; and four grandchil dren. She was a lifelong member of St.

Luke's Lutheran church. Roaring Spring. Friends will be received at the Hite Brothers funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. Willie K. Lantz, 898 Twentythird street, died at Mercy hospital Saturday morning at 11:30 o'clock.

He was born in Altoona, March 19, 1866, the son of M. and Belle (Keperley) Lantz. He was a retired carpenter and landscaper. Surviving are four brothers. Forrest Aden Elbridge G.

and Clyde all of Altoona: and one sister. Mrs. Robert G. Beech. at home.

Mr. Lantz was of the Methodist faith. Friends are being received at the Laughlin funeral home. MALCOLM D. IMLER WILLIE K.

LANTZ Malcolm D. Imler, 604 Bell avenue, who died Friday midnight at the Altoona hospital, apparently suffering from pneumonia, was born in Altoona Jan. 27. 1941. He was a son of Donald and Bessie (Cunningham) Imler, and attended the second grade of the Stevens school and the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church Sunday school.

Malcolm is survived by his parents and sister, Lydia Blanche, at home: the maternal grandfather, H. C. Cunningham, Altoona, and the paternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs.
