Wilson which reads: "In rv'ply to your letter of March 29, let me say that I approve not of the 'conditional' but of the 'unconditional' adhesion of the United States to the World Court set up under the auspices of the Leapue of Nations, though I think it would be more consistent with the fame of the I'nited States for candor and courage to become a member of the league of Nations and share with the other members the full responsibilities which its covenant involves." A method of operation discovered tor the treatment of angina pectoris was one nf the principal technical contributions. Drs. The chief contribution to the problem of sleeping was made by IT. It was agreed that chronic encephalitis, manifested by stiff muscles and tremDiing, is thus far incurable. Regarding blood pressure, Urs. It would seem to be almost impossible for human hands to cleanse the bottles as they are cleaned by this new and wonderful bottle washing machine. The dirty bottles are placed in a loading carriage.

This carriage by means of a ong conveyor passes slowly through tank containing a highly alkaline solution. This solution has a temperature of about 110 degrees. After slowly passing through this tank the bottles rise and discharge the nrst solution: then the conveyor carriage carries the bottles over to another tank containing a still stronger alkaline solution at a temperature of 150 degrees. From this tank they are again raised slowly, discharged and again the bottles enter into a third solution tank having a temperature of 180 degrees. From this point the bottles, after being discharged of the final solution, are thoroughly rinsed outside and inside.

Then they pass under two revolving high-speed bristle brushes which thoroughly clean the outside and bottom of the bottles while boiling water runs over the bottles and brushes. The bottles then move on and pass over a set of brushes which revolves at high speed and enter the inside of the bottle. These brushes are of such construction that they spread after entering the neck of the bottle and assure a thorough cleaning in this manner. The bottles are now rinsed again under high-pressure water at 150 degrees. This rinsing water is reduced to a temperature from 150 to 50 degrees while passing through the long sterilizing compartment.

After leaving the final cooling point the bottles slide out of the conveyor carriage on to the inspection table under which are high-power electric lights that give the inspector an opportunity to inspect each bottle without touching the same. After a short interval these bottles are automatically raised and placed on a bottle conveyor which in turn carries the clean, sterilized and cooled bottles on to a milk bottle filling machine. On this machine the bottles one by one are received by a revolving carriage and placed under the filling nozzles, from which they pass on to anotner machine, which automatically places the cap on the bottles. In the entire process of cleaning ana ninng a bottle of milk there is at no time a human hand touching the bottle. XKW CORPORATIONS.

SWEET POTATOES GROWN IN NORTH But Bulk of Year's 000 Crop Comes From South vept potatoes, ulthough of tropical origin, are now grown in large quuntitips in the United Ac cording to figures for 1921, more than 98.000.000 bushels, valued at over J86.00O.OOO, were produced in this country.

Naturally the climate of the Southern States is better suited to this crop than the shorter growing season of the North, but with early planting sweet potatoes are grown success! ully as far north as Southern Michigan. Government investigators have recently made a Btudy of the different varieties of sweet potatoes now grown in the United States, and have classified them in eight groups. Under these groups are at least 40 varieties having special characteristics, while the list of names by which minor varieties are known runs into the hundreds. The texture, flavor and color of the flesh of sweet potatoes range from dry. mealy ones of whitisn color and low sugar content to juicy, niimrjkin-culored kinds from which sweet syrup oozes during the Sweet potatoes, prepared in one form or another, may be served satisfactorily in almost any course in a menu.

Selena Royle The youngest principal in the cast of "Peer Gynt" is Selena Royle. Her father. Edwin Milton Royle, is a dramatist, whose best known production possibly is "The Squaw Man." He arranged "Launcelot and Klaine especially to present his daughters, Selena and Josephine, in 1921. Her mother, Selena Fetter Royle, was an actress also and continued to act after the advent of her daughters. She it was who introduced Selena to the stage.

When Selena was an intant, nareiy seven years old, her mother began takine her to rehearsals and if she was real good, Selena was rewarded by a visit to the theater to see ner mother act. The little girl was especially fond of watching her mother make up and would stand thoroughly-absorbed at her mother's knee imitating every motion of the capable hands. Now making-up, instead of being an ordeal and a source of anxiety, as it is to most young actresses, is a pleasure for her and at times even, she asserts, it Is a re laxation; as. of course, is any art when it is thoroughly understood. Mrs.

Royle has told an interesting incident regarding the Selena of seven Once, missing her small charge from her usual place in the wings during the first act, Mrs. Royle returned hastily to her dress ing room but found no trace of her there. Everybody joined in the search, actors and stage hands, for Mrs. Royle was constantly in fear of a kidnapper. Mrs.

Royle tiecame al most hysterical when she touna that her costume for the second act was missing. Meanwhile the waiting audience was waxing impatient and as a gradually increasing stamping and whis tling made itself audible back stage, the exasperated manager begged Mrs. Royle to go on in some other costume. Twenty minutes later the curtain went up on a gradually lightening stage, flrcat was the amazement of those before and back of the stage when they beheld the baby Selena, robed in her mother's missing costume, holding up the heavy silk folds in both round fat arms, the small head almost lost in a large picture hat, placed at the correct coquettish angle, exhibiting just the edge of a heavily powdered sr.ia;. the dimple completely filled with powder.

For an instant the people held their breaths, but when this strange figure made a small though stately bow, a chuckle scattered over the dark theater and grew to a great roar and such applause as had never before sounded there. "And that is, says SHena Royle, "the first time was ever on the stage and I liked it so well I stayed." NAMj gamk called off.
