(Special Correspondence of The Eagle and Phila. Ledger; Copyright, 1925.) Tokio, March 1-'One of the greatest dangers Japan has to face is the fact that so many of her subjects are becoming spiritually Americanized," declares a writer in the is Kokumin Shimbun, who easily identified as lichiro Tokutomi, newspaper's famous and quick witted editor. "Japan need not worry about American battleships, and even American fortifications in the Pacitic need cause no great alarm," he continues, "but the people who regard the United States as their spiritual home, and who are blinded by the magnitude of the great republic in the West, are a real national menace." The most important factor in attracting the devotion of a Japanese is America's immense wealth, this writer explains. Americans have the resources and the enterprise to accomplish such gigantic undertakings that have hypnotized a certain impressionable class of Japanese and won their hearts completely. But almost invariably, he says, the Americanized Japanese acquires all his idol's faults and none of his virtues.

"If such a admirers of America increase among the Japanese this observer concludes, "Japan, while independent materially, may find herself spiritually annexed by the United States of America." SILK! BANKRUPT NOBLES SELL THEIR TITLES Easy Now in Germany to Be- come a Baron. (Special Correspondence of The Eagle and Phila. Ledger; Copyright, 1923.) Berlin, March 16-Europe's 110- bility is bankrupt. Consequently the selling of titles has become a business. In Germany, under the laws of the republic, which recognizes titles only as a part of the name of the possessor, it now is much easter to enter the ranks of the nobility than it was under the most stringent rules of the monarchy.

Paid marriages by means of which wealthy women acquire a "von" or a highersounding appellation, and the legal adoption of title-seeking men by noble families for a consideration. are frequent and entirely within the law. The business of selling titles 15 testified to by frequent advertisements appearing in the daily press and by a great many cases of fake "title narriages" which have been aired in the courts. A prospectus was recently circulated by an enterprising dentist who through his practice made the acquaintance of several nobles who were in need of funds. With these in stock.

so to speak. he began his advertising campaign US follows: "No doubt you realize that in the very best society here and abroad only the genuine nobility, are welcomed. At the moment I am fortunately able to arrange the conferring of a title upon you by adoption. can obtain for you a title of lower grade for 1.000 gold marks; you can become a baron by the payment of 3.000 gold marks. and a count for between 4,000 and 5.000.
