Woman Nearly 60 and Without Honey, Home or Friendt Other Hotel. Alderman DoByne dispensed justice at the mayor's office yesterday afternoon. He imposed a fine of $5.80 each upon Charles Jones and Joseph Jefferson, both colored, for fighting. CharleB Inlow was fined $2.80 for being drunk. Policeman Ira Baird has recovered from his recent illness and went on duty again last night.

Officer Bender iB off duty on account of sickness. Officer Cherry reported to the mayor's office last evening that he had found a homeless old womau at Seventh avenue and Fourth street who was without a place to stay for the night. The unfortunate lady was conducted to the city building, where she said she had walked all the way from Duliois to Altoona. Her name, she Bays, is Mary Scott and she iB 58 years old. She alleges that ehe is going to an aunt's bouse in Johnstown to live.

She was allowed to pasB the night in the women's ward. About 2 a. m. yesterday Officer Elpern noticed that the front door of a residence on Broad street was open, and upon investigation, he found a rear window had been raised. He awakened the people and the premises were searched, but nothing was found missing.

A bucket had been placed under the window to facilitate the work of opening the Bash and as the door had been locked when the people retired, it is quite clear that there wbb an attempt at robbery. Shortly after midnight yesterday morning Officer Shafer found that a pane of glass and a transom on the house at 1313 Fourth avenue had been broken. A woman whom he questioned Baid that an attempt had been made to rob her residence by several men, who; when they were discovered, threw stones through the window and fired off a revolver. The lieutenant of police got a telephone message last night at 8 o'clock that a crowd of men had congregated in Brandt's planing mill yard, on Margaret avenue, and tbat they were drinking and carousing. When the policemen arrived the crowd had disappeared.

New Power Home for Silk Mill. Mr. Ortz, of the firm of Schwarzen-bach, Huber has awarded to Contractor W. V. Hughes, of this city, the contract for the erection of the new power houee for the Altoona silk mill.

The building will be 40x150 feet and it is to be substantially constructed. The work in this new addition to the big Bilk mill plant will begin immediately. June Drop Sales. The attendance was large. Theodore Crawford, James Condrin and Cloyd Kerlin went to Harrisburg last night to attend the democratic convention. The location'of the family "unpleasantness" the other evening, which the item stated was on Twentieth street, Bhould have read Twenty-first street. School Director J. C.

Hughes and Druggist G. B. Eaumgardner, of the Sixth ward, left laet night on fast line for Harrisburg to be present at the democratic convention. The funeral of William eon of Joseph B. and Cecelia McDonough, of 912 Eighth avenue, will take place this morning at 9 o'clock.

Interment in St. John's cemetery. A delegation of volunteer firemen from Bellwood were in the city last evening and invited the firemen of Altoona to attend the festival being given by the Bellwood company. The festival of the War of the Roses will be continued this evening in the DePeyster Memorial school house, under the auspiceB of the King's Daughters of St. Luke's Protestant Episcopal church, The funeral of the late Samuel Shuff, will take place on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Services will be held at the house, 1517 Fourth avenue, and the remains will be interred in Oak Ridge cemetery. New To-day. H. L. Wilson-Wall paper.

David, the 4-year-old son of G. A. Zimmers, of 1412 Eighteenth avenue, fell off the front porch etepa on Sunday afternoon, breaking both bones in his left arm. Dr. Shaffer set the arm and he is getting along very nicely.

Lawn Social. A lawn social will be held at D. F. Sunderland's, 1021 Sixth avenue, Friday, June 10, for the benefit of tbe Eighth Avenue Methodist Episcopal church. Well Satisfied.
