Dr. Linn moves that by reason of a tie vote in the election of Common Council for Second ward, councils proceed, under provision of charter, to elect council- man, and it was so ordered. Monongahela-has not been altogether dull in a literary way this winter. We have had a Chautauqua Literary, a Shakespere Club, a Book Club, a German converzasione, a German study class and two Literary Societies of more or less life. It begins to look a little as if the Baptists and Disciples might come together some day. They held a union meeting in the Baptist church of this place Sunday night.

1883, so that the fire district shall be limited on the West by Eighth Street. Section 1. Be It ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of Monongahela City, in Joint session assembled, and It is hereby ordained and enacted: That Section One of an ord1 nance entitled "An ordinance establishing fire limit, and prohibiting the erection of wooden buildings" approved the ninth day of April, one thousand, eight hundred and eighty-three, which now reads as follows: Section I. A petition having 200 signers, praying councils to stipulate in contract for street work, that "none but citizens of the United States should be given work, and home labor be given the preference," was after remarks by Messrs. Nevins, Downer, Gregg, Linn Harrison, and Finley referred to committee on streets. A petition reciting necessity for extension of Main street sewer to Cemetery street, and signed by C. W. Mary V.

Joxes, Clerk. Three Story Ilriuk. George Nelson, on Monday, contracted with Yohb Brothers for a three story brick, 30 feet front, on Main, on the site of the old Nelson shoe shop. It will have a first floor confectionery a second story ice cream and banquet room, with third story living room, a double back porch. Mr.

Yohe says it will be a first class modern style building, and an ornament to the street. The Shooting Mat ch. The coming shooting match booked I to take place on the 19th, is now a sure go. It grows out of a challenge made by the I'ittsburg rifle team to, the Monongahela club. A number of fine shots from Greene county, some from Ben-: tleysville, from Charleroi, will be here to make a challenge to the Pittsburg shots for a 100 yard trial, the Monongahela match being for 20 yards.

Effort will be made to have the 100 yard match take place also on the 19th. A range has been laid out and set up, at the East End, in Carlton, in the Stephens board yards, and our boys are in active practice. Capt. Staib being a member of Pittsburg team, will draw off, unwilling to shoot against I the home team or against his own club. Butler Huggins will be in the party, and a very interesting time is expected.

There is a red-hot contest on over this plum among five candidates. John W. Teeters seems to be the strongest endorsed and he is followed in the order named I by A. D. Scott, John Holland.
