Among others present were Mr.

and Mrs. D. E. Parker and daughters, of Juniata. Andrew Murphy, a laborer in the em ploy of one of the firms doing work on the Pennsylvania railroad improvements near Lewistown, was lound on the track by Watchman Reynolds last Tuesday night.

II II II The Gould- Wabash syndicate is having troubles of its own in its endeavora to et- fect an entrance into Pittsburg, if the Smoky City papers are to be believed They are authority for the statement that through the influence of the I'enn syivania-Vanderbilt people Pittsburg councilmen look the other way when any proposition in favor of the Wabash coming in is spoken of. Because of the very heavy rains of the past week some one started the report that the picnio grounds at Idlewild bad been practically ruined. II .11 II The work of putting in new ties in the yard on the south side at Ninth etreet is being pushed whenever the weather will permit. II II II The annual story of the proposed com' pletion of the Pennsylvania Midland rail road, having been given life by the statement that as soon aa the legal entangle- ments have been unraveled work will begin, it is hoped that the rumors will prove to be facts. A stone was also picked up in an adjoining field that looks like a oommon potato cut into halves. In oolor it can hardly be distin guished from a genuine potato. Frysinger Evans, treasurer of Dickinson college, and son of Dr. W. Evans, formerly pastor of the Eighth Avenue Methodim Episcopal church, this city, will be married to Miss Edith Perrin BrewBter in the FirBt Presbyterian church, LandBdowne, June 11, 1901, at 7.30 o'clock.

The trolley tracks at Burnham were oovered with water but tiaffio was kept up, although somewhat delayed.

InceBBant rain during the laat four days has caused the Loyalhanna to over flow its banks and great damage has been done throughout the Ligonier val ley. Corn fields were entirely washed out and many families were compelled to leave their houses. At Idlewild the damage is particularly heavy. Luther Greasy's crops are washed out and he was obliged to drive all his stock to a place of safety. The picnic grounds are inundated and a party of Latrobe people coming out was almost swept away.

The Elliottsbnrg correspondent of the Perry county Demoorat Bays: The writer a few days ago found in his field a land turtle whiorj had the name 'Jacobs" carved upon it on its under Bide. The letters of the name were worn so shallow that they could scarcely be deciphered. He also saw another turtle in the same field a year ago, and the identical one twenty years ago, that bad the letters and the figures 1850," engraven upon it.
