Driver Escapes As Flood SweeQS Car Downstream Elmer Lovell who lives in the Oak Grove community had a harrowing experience Saturday evening about 8 when his car was swept from a low water bridge in the flood-swollen Ev ansville creek Lovell was crossing the creek on the bridge some two-and-a-half miles north of the Pettigrew store east of Stilwell He was almost across the stream when he felt the back end of the car begin to slip downstream The vehicle was swept off the bridge and down the stream some 200 yards before it lodged on a tree in the middle of the creek The car remained upright throughout its trip downward Lovell was unable to crawl out of a window as the down-stream door was securely fastened against the tree The current pressing against the car made opening the other door difficult He finally managed however to force the door open and climbed on top of the car After some time Gib Bigby drove by and Lovell was able to attract his attention Bigby threw the stranded man a rope and pulled him to safety Surprisingly the car seemed little the worse for the soaking On its swift journey downstream the vehicle struck a bluff and was baged-up some but outside of being muddy able to determine the strong and weak points in their operations and recognize further improvements that could be made in their operations Davis said As proof that good farm planning pays off Davis
