Attorney says Tony Robinson entrapped bond. five-hour hearing before University of Tennessee Vice President Francis Gross. The circumstances here clearly amount to government over-reaching or entrapment, Ritchie added. He spent most of the hearing questioning Knox County Detective Mike Duncan, the undercover officer who helped bust Robinson and former Vol running back Kenneth B.B. Cooper on Jan.

8. Police have alleged there were five cocaine purchases made at an off-campus apartment shared by Robinson and Cooper. Robinson is charged in four of the counts while Coooper is named in all five. Both are free on KNOXVILLE, Term. (AP) An attorney for former Tennessee quarterback Tony Robinson said Tuesday that his client was entrapped by police determined to arrest the injured Volunteer athlete cm cocaine charges.

Robert Ritchie made the charge after a hearing to determine if Robinson should keep his scholarship or be expelled because of charges he and his roommate sold more than an ounce of cocaine to undercover officers. Its difficult to believe the university would endorse a system in which students are subject to entrapmentlike tactics, Ritchie said after the But Ritchie insisted to Duncan that there was no evidence that Robinson was much more than present when the alleged drug deals occurred. You have no personal knowledge that Mr. Robinson participated in getting the quarter ounce of cocaine from the source, do you? Ritchie asked Duncan. Duncan said Robinson was aware of that and other cocaine buys and did not object when Cooper said the injured quarterback could take care of Duncan if he were not around.

But under Ritchies questioning, Duncan said he didnt know if Robinson helped obtain the drug or if he profited from its sale. Ron Leadbetter, a university attorney representing the schools Office of Student Affairs, said the allegations of entrapment should not be considered by Gross during his deliberations. Whether there was entrapment or not is outside these proceedings, Leadbetter argued. The sole issue here is whether Mr. Robinson possessed cocaine for resale.

Duncan testified that Robinson and Cooper, whose student disciplinary hearing is set later this month, were partners in the drug-selling scheme although Robinsons role was more passive than his roommates. From what I heard, I believe they have the capability of making an impartial judgement, said Commissioner Harry Usher of the USFL, a league whose continued existence is likely to depend on the outcome of the case. Its definitely different than a regular trial, Usher, a lawyer, although not a part of the USFLs legal team, said. But the Trojans came back in their half of the third. Doug Shumate led the inning with a stand-up double to left-center field and was followed by Waters RBI triple down the left field line.

The 6-foot-3-ineh, 235-pound linebacker, who played under Coaches Doug Barfield and Pat Dye at Auburn Unversity, also has something else in mind his planned marriage to Selmian Lori Miller, daughter of Randell and Winona Miller. Why he was cut was understandable. I was a free agent. The Stallions had only four spots open and there was 80 guys in camp trying out for them," he said.

Then (quarterback) Cliff Stoudt came in and brought some players with him from Pittsburgh (Steelers of the National Football League). But Williams' talent wasnt forgotten.
