Outfielders now will have a chance to make real plays on bouncing balls out there. The fences are being rehabilitated and instead of the usual systdm of ad signs jammed together, each will be separated by ornamental woodwork, making de luxe displays.

CORAL GABLES, March 10 (JP) Denny Shute snapped back a succinct Bosh today in reply to Gene Sarazen's contention younger stars soon will cause golf fans to forget the "big names of yesteryear. i Taking for his example the case of Sam Snead, second only to Harry- Cooper as the years leading money winner, the current P. G. A. champion said: Sure this Snead is good.

Hes won a couple of winter tournaments and has pocketed a lot of prize money. But why go off our heads and say he's the greatest player to come up in the last 10 years? Dick Metz was the boy wonder five years ago, but he didnt continue to blast par every time out. Horton Smith was invincible during 192 9 when he won 15 tournaments and $15,000." Shute, toying with a club in his pr0 shop at the Miami Biltmore Country Club, continued: And then what happens? They go along for awhile with the Gods of Fate smiling on them. Then, they miss a putt with a couple of thousand bucks hanging on it, or dub a niblick shot. Its then they find out theyre human and it takes something out of them which only continual plugging will bring back.

Horton Smith, despite the big purses he captured, never has figured first in a major competition. And I doubt if Snead will for some time to come. Shute contends a professional club-swinger does not get a real test until he strikes one of the major tournaments. "Then it usually Is one of the old timers who crowds his way into first place. Black figures indicate Sunday games.

Note this schedule balances Each club has 14 games at home and abroad with every other club. Each club has 2 Sundays at home and abroad with every other club. Harry Cooper and Jimmy Thomson had the assignment for the 36-hole semi-final round. Gene Sarazen and Jimmy Hines failed after two days. So intense was interest in the advance of the candy kid, Henry Picard, and his bushy-haired partner, Johnny Revolta, that the good teams moved ahead almost un noticed on the other side of the bracket.

Lawson Little and Tony Manero (By The Associated Press) SAN BERNARDINO, March 10 (A1) Manager Pie Traynor told the Pittsburgh Pirates today to forego golf and devote all their time to training. Greenberg has been rattling the fences in batting practice, and may get his first chance to show his punch in actual play In the first intersquad game late this week. Glenna Only Hurdle For Hemphill In Play For Golfing Honors BELLEAIR, March 10 UP) Kathryn Hemphills chances of winning the Belleair Womens Golf Tournament apparently hinged today on how much a long layoff affected the game of Mrs. Glenna Collett Vare. POWERS LOOKS GOOD HAVANA Les Powers, 24-year-old rookie from Baltimore, may answer the New York Giants' first base problem if Manager Bill Terry doesn't take the job himself. Although he's rated now behind Johnny McCarthy and Sam Leslie, Powers has a record of never hitting below .300 in any minor league and hes been getting some long clouts in training camp games.
