BaU Srienoe PHxe CriLBERT HANSEN GARL HOLMBERG STEVE VANEK J. O. Mathematics RICHARD CAMPBELL Stenographers Club Prize JUDITH HAMMERBECK Valedictory Address It is essential that occasionally during our full and faat- moving lives we stop briefly and take stock of ourselves. Commencement is probably the most important stopping point because decisions made now will have such a far-reaching effect. Here at this stage between youth and adulthood each of us begins to go his separate way and determine how he will spend the minutes, hours, and years that are his.

These choices should not be hasty, for this lifetime we possess is the greatest treasure. We are all equally rich, but W'hen we have spent our fortune what will w'e have bought? Only one thing will last despite any circumstances and will remain untarnished through the years. It is happiness. I don't mean fun or frivolity, for though they are pleasurable, they are temporary. I mean, rather, the happiness that can come from joy of a family, the satisfaction of doing a job the pleasure of a love for life.

Certainly w'e all desire success in something, yet even if w'e are disappointed and fall short of a goal there will be no tragedy if the time spent striving for it was filled with enjoyment. The secret of happiness will be different for each one of us. In infinite variety we will all find our own road to a special star. In the end, however, each will have had the same chance to discover and share true happiness. Our public school careers are within a few minutes of completion.

From now on we must choose our paths. With gratitude to those w'ho have helped us to our feet, our parents, teachers and friends, and with humility befitting our youth, let us leave the past. Confident that all things work for good, and happy to be alive, let us enter the future. MOHR Colonel Fred E.
