C. June, 26th 1838. (Pr. Adv 85 62) 243-6r. THE INDIAN ELIXIR A CURE FOR Coughs, Asthma, Sf Inflammation of the Lungs, Is a vegetable extract, of an agreeable taste, and certain in its happy results.

The hecret of making this pleasant elixir was communicated by an Indian chief, or mediciner as he was called, to aa English physician attached to the command of Gen. Wolfe, after the capitulation of Quebec, as an act ot gratitude for some favor he had received during the progress of that affair. Shortly after this transaction the professional gentleman was recalled, (by the decease of some wealthy connexions at home,) to the possession of an ample fortune. Although the doctor abandoned his former pursuits, he never relinquished' the practice ol the Elixir," which he prescribed to a very great extent without receiving any compensation whatever, except the reward which attends the performance of a good action. After the death of tbeloctor, from the same humane motives, his descendants continued the use of the receipt for a long time, as on numerous testimonals will show, till the increasing demand made it necessary that they should form some such arrangement as should de liver them from the trouble, and yet not diminish its usefulness.

The heir, therefore, finally willed to do the business entirely. by agency; making only so mod erate a charge; as merely to defray the expenses of pre paring the medicine. With a view to this object, the executors have appointed C. E. HOIT the sole agent for North America and the West India Ixlands who will reside in New-York, and appoint such sub.agentS; as, in his judgment, necessity may require.

Certificates and letters of recommendaiion may be had of ihe ageiits, where many of the originals may be examined, which would satisfy the most fastidious. As the article ia not sold with a desire to make the profit an object, the folly of a false repression must appear obvious to every reasonable person. Price I per bottle. CREATION AND REDEMPTION. No chiselled urn is reared for thee, No sculptured scroll unrols its page, To tell the children of the free, Where rests the patriot and the sage. Far in the city of the dead, A corner holds thy sacred clay, And pilgrim feet, by reverence led, Have worn a path that marks the way. There round the lone and simple grave, Encroaching on its marble gray, Wild plaintain weeds and tall grass wave 4 And sunbeams pour their shadeless ray. Level with earth thy lettered stone, And hidden oft by winter's snow, Its modest record tells alone Whose dust it is, that sleeps below. "Ex nihilo nihil fit" they say, Was a maxim once in vogue with some, But few indeed can now maintain That "nothing must from nothing come." i For though the ancients could convert Their gold to rags (as we are told,) Yet we in times more Can make from rags the bst of gold. All hail, alchyrnjr, That can from nothing something make What pity things created thus, Their primal form are prone to take. So let us have a Bank, my boys A fortune thus we all may win, Like lillies of the valleive, Who "toil not neither do they spin." mi5u Wnv did vou not tell him Whv did vou not Ha? "Julia do you think he suspects us?" Not a whit more than he does the king of the French Well Julia, to tell the truth of the tnat'er, I left you this morning with the intention of telling him our affections for each other; and if he refused I was determined to act for myself without further advice: but when 1 came before him I felt something in my throat choaking me, and could scarcely talk about business; much less love affiirs." The- lovers often met and the voyage from the Indies being threatened, it became necessary that they should prepare for the trials that seemed to await them. In the mean time Mr. H. was endeavoring to ascertain the cause of his clerk's unhappiness; more for the good of the young man than he cared about the unimportant mistakes made by him in his accounts. The next opportunity that afforded he repeated his former question and insisted on an immediate reply.

Robert stuttered and stammered a good deal, and at last he came out with it. I am attached to a Voung lady in the city, sir, and-1 have reason to believe she is as much attached to me; but there in an in Ihp lunv 5nrt Ah indeed And does the obstacle fi mount I to more than a thousand dollars it does not you shall not want. I'll fill up a check; now i have all the parties consented Why, sir, the cause of my the reason the -that is the cause of my uneasiness is I am afraid her father will not consent." "Will not consent! who is he refer him to me, I'll settle the matter." He is a rich man, sir, and I am not rich." His daughter loves you, does she!" I think I yes, Sir." "She. says she does, any how don't she?" Why, I yes she, yes, sir, she has said as much." Is the old fellow very rich I believe, sir, he is tol tolerably well off." "And he won't consent? By the powers of love he must be an old Turk he won't hey Here, give me his name. I'll soon settle the matter but stop, has he any thing against you is he acquainted with your character does he know me?" Here the old man went over a string oftfues-tions which it is not worth while here to relate.

The conclusion of the conference left Robert in the possession of a check for a thousand dollars, a letter of introduction to parson Green of the Presbyterian Church, and the following advice from the lips of his father-in-law in prospective. He was to run away with the girl, use (Mr. H's) carriage, and George, his black waiter, was to drive it and so forth. Robert governed himself in strict accordance with the advice given, and before dark the parties were at parson Green'a whose scruples of conscience were quieted by the introduction of the letter. They were soon pronounced man and wife, and jumped into the carriage, followed by a blessing from parson Green, whose fee was a small pan of the thousand dollar check.

George was directed io drive the carriage to a rich old childless uncle of Rorbet's who lived about five miles from the city, to whom the secret was told. He thought the joke too good to be enjoyed alone, and he sent out for some of his neighbors. Midnight found the jovial assembly destroying the good things the aunt had provided, and laughing over the trick so successfully played upon one of the wealthiest shippers of the south. Eirly next morning Robert and Mrs Moultrie were attended by their uncle and aunt to the house of Mr. Hullowell -the young people an xious for the effervescence of a father' wrath to be over the antiquated pair to us modifica-tors on the question.

They were met by Mr. Hallowell, whose first words were MYou young rogue you, I did'nt know my advice was to act upon me. Well Robert, he added, laughing heartily, you caught mt that time and you deserve to be rewarded (or the generalship yon have displayed.
