August 4, 1965 Final Plans Announced for New Super City Shopping Center Here Page Thres CENT El The warehouse market will offer groceries at wholesale to merchants, cafes, institutions and any individual on a mem bership basis. Memberships will be available for a monthly fee of $2 which will be required only for the months they buy. Patrons will be able to purchase groceries by the case or in single units. There will be no customer services offered in the operation except that merchandise will be displayed on ordinary, pallet type shelving and displayed in the original cartons or cases.

Customers will he provided with shopping trucks to select their purchases and the only personnel on duty in the store will be checkout clerks. Customers will have to carry their purchases from the store. The warehouse will carry only nationally advertised brands of merchandise. The warehouse market will be open 45 hours a week. Membership cards will be available at the market when it opens.

A variety of businesses wNl be included in the new Super City Shopping Center on North Main, according to final plans which were announced today by Bjornson Development Company of Valley City, N.D. The architect's sketch here shows three of the stores which Will be included in the shopping center. First of the stores to open will be the new Tempo Store shown here at the left. It is expected to open sometime this month. Randall to Open Largest Food Store Construction will soon begin on a new, supermarket in the new Super City Shopping Center, with a completion date set sometime between late November and the first of January, according to F.

The new store will be the largest supermarket in North and South Dakota, Randall said, and will replace the existing Randall's Super Valu at 12th and Main. "The store will feature 15 complete departments and will provide the most complete and varied food selection of any store within a 350 mile radius.

We are going to use ideas and suggestions that our customers have recommended to us the past 14 years, along with many new ideas that we have observed in supermarkets across the Randall stated. "Actually, you might say that this will be a store our customers built, because they have told us what they want in a supermarket, and we are going to build it for he said. "In addition, we are instituting many new cost-cutting techniques in the new store that will 'further reduce the prices the consumer pays for our products. Our big goal in this new store will be to provide the folks of our trade area with lower food prices than any other area." Some of the new departments will include a Delicatessen that will feature ready-to-eat foods, prepared right in the store, "imported sausages and cheeses and other not commoniy found in a supermarket." A new, "Quick Snack Bar" featuring home-cooked lunches will be another store feature. In addition, complete departments of gourmet foods, dietetic foods, non-foods and health and beauty aids will be provided in the new store.

The meat department, Randall said, will be expanded into both a self-service and service department. Customers will have their choice of selecting meats packaged and displayed for their immediate selection or having meat cut specially while they wait. All varieties of meats will be available in the new market. In addition, a complete processing service will be available to provide meats for lockers or home freezers. The bakery department also will be expanded into a self-service and service unit.

Attendants will be on hand assist customers in their bakery selections and to provide assistance to those who wish orders baked for special occasions. The grocery, frozen foods, dairy and produce departments will also be expanded, said Randall, to accommodate a larger selection in each department. Other features of the new store will be a complete lawn and garden center, a courtesy counter that will provide money services, notary cashing service orders, film public, check and other customer conveniences. A new parcel-pickup station will provide customers with placement of their grocery purchases right in their car.

Customers will not have to handle their packages from the time they checkout until they reach their homes. In addition to the new store, a second floor will be constructed over part of the building to house the administrative offices of Randall Stores, Inc. Mitchell is the home-base for Stores, which now includes 14 supermarkets located in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Approximately 150 people will be employed at the new store and offices. Randall said the corporation will continue to be associated with Super Valu Stores, Inc.

W. Bartlett, Regional Development Manager for the firm, the Super City Shopping Center will be completed this winter. Tenants who have leased space at this date are Tempo Department 3tore, a subsidiary of Gamble Skogmo, Minneapolis 30,000 square feet; White Drug of Jamestown, N. 23,500 square feet; Randall's Super Valu of Mitchell, 25,000 square feet; and the Stewarts Beauty Salon of Sioux Falls. Also to be included in the shopping complex will be a Barber Shop, Laundromat and Dry Cleaning Center, plus seven or eight additional retail shops which haven't been leased as of this date.

The Super City Shopping Center will offer the ultimate shopping comfort and convenience, summer and winter. All stores will be air conditioned and connected by heated- air-conditioned malls. Rest room facilities will be open to the public. Lighted, hard surfaced, free parking for over 1,000 cars will be provided for the customers. Bartlett said instruction will begin this fall on 34 one and two bedroom apartments and an automobile service center.

White Drug Plans 2nd Store in City White Drug, which has operated a store in downtown Mitchell for the past six years, announced Wednesday that it will open the largest drug store in South or North Dakota at the new Super City Shopping Center on Mitchell's north side. Rex Oberhelman, Huron, chair supervisor for White Drug, said the firm will continue to operate it's store at Third and Main in addition to opening the new operation, which will feature 25 departments in the 23,500 square feet of the new building. "We feel we can better service to the public through two outlets and have confidence that the growth of the Mitchell trade area will justify operating two stores in this stated Oberhelman. This will be the 17th store for the White Drug Chain, which was founded in Jamestown, N.

The Drug Store, when completed, will measure approximately 134 180 feet, said Oberhelman. The 25 departments to be included in the new operation are: camera, prescription, tobacco, cosmetics, automotive, hardware, electrical, interior decorating, jewelry, gifts, greeting cards, soft goods, furniture, appliances, pet, animal health, candy, patent medicines, baby care, records, household, stationery, liquor, luggage and seasonal promotion.

The firm expects to hire about 30 persons to staff the new operation. Albert J. Treib, Mitchell, Killed By Lightning Albert J. Treib, 33, Mitchell, was killed when struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon while working for a construction company at Cocoa Beach on Cape Kennedy, Fla. Super City Robert Moir, Ex-Mitchellite, Dies in Calif. Word has been received here of the death of a former Mitchell man, Robert H. Moir, 42, Burbank, on July 25, following a heart attack. Mr. Moir was born in Mitchell on May 27, 1923 and was graduated from Mitchell High School in 1941.

He then moved to Burbank, Calif, and was employed at Lockheed Aircraft Corp. until 1943 when he enlisted in the Navy. 'In 1948 he was married to Esther Spielman. They have one child, Jeffery, who is eight years old. He was employed with the California State Highway Patrol as a Sergeant at the time of his death.

In addition to his widow and son, he is survived by his mother, Lucille Moir, Burbank, Calif. and his sister, Mrs. Marjorie Arendsee, Hay wood, Calif. He was also the nephew of James L. Potter and the late Alta Potter, Mitchell.

P. Turnhli Dies; Final Rites Scheduled E. P. (Bill) Turnbull. Spirit Lake, former longtime Mitchell resident, died Tuesday evening at a Rochester, hospital.

Mr. Turnout! left Mitchell last April after residing here for 25 to 30 years. He was employed here hy Wilson Motor Company and Western Chevrolet. He was born and raised in Sibley, la. Funeral services will be conducted by 1:30 p.m., Friday at the Wolton Funeral Home Irt Sibley.

Burial also will be in Sibley. Survivors include a brother, NAMED TO HONOR ROLL Gary Kilstroffl and Craig Porter, both of Mitchell, were named to the 1965 spring mester honor roll at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City.
