Merchants, professional people, educators, social workers, labor leaders, government authorities all want; to know a lot of things about you. Cosmetics manufacturers also wonder what shade of lipstick, you prefer, and movie-makers wonder what types of movies you like best. Th6 census director had to rule out many hundreds of such proposed subjects to boil the questionnaire down to size.

Questions that are left are there for sound reasons, and you can help by answering'them completely, correctly and cheerfully when the C-man comes. FOR THE FARMER there are; more questions about crops, his animals, soil erosion, sanitary facilities, age and condition of farm buildings and similar queries. 1 The farmer may find his census blanks in his mailbox, with a note to fill them out himself and give them to the C-mail when he calls. Why does Uncle Sam want to know all these things about you and some 150,000,000 other people? For many good reasons. Communities want to know how many school children to plan for, how many new school buildings must be built, Businesses of all kinds want to know how many people ask you about twenty basic questions about each person in the household name, age, race, occupation, where born, etc.

Every fifth persons on the list will be asked about 20 additional questions--where did he live a year ago? what was his last job? what was his income last year? The C-man is bound by law and oath never to reveal any of your answers, except tothe census bureau. However, if you still hesitate to give him any information, you may mail your answers directly to the census bureau. FOR 16 YEARS -UNCLE SAM'S bureau of the census has been preparing for C-day Census day Saturday. Detailed aerial maps spotting every dwelling in the country have been thecked and double-checked. Borne 150,000 government workers most of them parttime enumerators will take part in the counting job.

The cost to Uncle Sam will be $80,000,000. You will come into the census picture soon after Saturday, when a 'C-man or C-woman will knock at your door. Be iure he shows you his-identification card. Benefits To Come. The census will afford answers to many questions about trends of the American society. On the farms at the turn of the half century. Primary The primary purpose of the census is to make a count, of the population of each state to determine representation in congress. The constitution provides that the seats in congress be apportioned among the states every 10 years.

It is certain from sample estimates that one effect of the census will be a shift westward in the political balance of power. When congressional representation is reapportioned according to the latest census figures, probably in 1952, population gains should give the three Pacific coast states 10 new seats in the house. Since there are only 435 seats, the increase in congressional power of the western states' will be at the expense of the southern. enclosing electric motor controls, i A special invitatioh has been extended architects, architectural The Red Cross fund goal of is in sight and should be reached by the end of this week, it was reported today by the Rock Island chapter, Charles Fiebis Son.
