The American Football League Western Division championship is all wrapped up by the Chargers Monday and San Diego still had its unbeaten streak but only because of two come-from-hehind rallies, the second in the final quarter. Jack Kemps second touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter Sunday saved San Diego and the Chargers squeaked by the surprising Denver Broncos, 19-16, for their narrowest win of the year.

BOTTLED UP BY Denvers defense and a snowstorm that held the crowd to 7,859 fans, San Diego went scoreless during the first half for the first time this year in its 10 AFL and four exhibition games'. But two qiuck touchdowns within a minute in the third quarter one on a 91-yard pass play from Kemp to Keith Lincoln got the Chargers back in the game with a 12-9 lead. Still, Denver refused to fade as ft had several weeks back when the Chargers won 37-0. Quarterback Frank Tripucka connected with Al Frazier for an 87-yard scoring play that snapped the Broncos back in the lead. FINALLY KEMP hit Bob Scar-pitto from 16 yard out with seven minutes left in the game and the perfect record still was intact San Diego, which won the AFL first Western division title last year before losing the playoff to the Houston Oilers, has four more games to play in its attempt to sweep thru the year unbeaten.

The strong San Diego pass defense, which now has picked off 40 passes in the 10 games, intercepted five more Sunday to stymie Denver in the second half and score one Charger touchdown. The would-be tacklers are Jim Stinette (36), Wahoo McDaniel (54) lasting the outcomes of 24 of tne 30 contest games. Two other entries predicted tie outcomes of 23 games. They were Sterman Willis, also of 350 West Ninth, and Gary Agatep of 202 North Date Street.

Sterman Willis piedicted 855 points would be scored and Agaiep predicted 795 points would be scored. The former figure was the closer to the actual point total of 994 so it earned second place. T-A checks for $10, $6.50 and $3.50 will be mailed to the winners Tuesday afternoon unless an error in tabulation is discovered before then. Only two entries were found qualified to claim prizes offered by merchants in their advertime mems. One was Sterman Willis who, -in addition to apparently cinching second place, also can ilaim three lines of bowling at Palomar Lanes.

He correctly predicted Texas would defeat Baylor, 33-7. The other prize winner was Raymond W. Smith of Route 3, Box 240, who correctly predicted that Florida would defeaf Georgia, 21-14. ShopS IBig Same In Store Friday flight As Knights, Titans Close Season By United Press International As any pro football coach will agree, its great to have talent but its even better when you have some luck to go with it Ask coach Al Sherman of the New York Giants and hell tell you his club was doused with good fortune Sunday as it walloped the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-21, and moved into a first-place tie in the Eastern Division of the National Football League.

And if you ask coach Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers, hell tell you his gang will need all the luck it can find in order to stay on the top of the Western Division, what with star backs Paul Homung and Boyd Dowler headed for the Army this week. The Packers won their showdown battle with the Chicago Bears, 31-28, and pulled away to a 1 -game lead in the Western Division. However, line in the NFL could be pretty grim for the Packers from here out, with reserves at four positions and three of the last five games to be play ed on the road. Knights failed to score against Carlsbad (033), team tnat Poway probably should have beaten, los ing 67 when it fumbled on the Carlsbad one-yard line in the final seconds of the game. Whos going to win? Lets wait till Friday night has more than 1,000 yards passing and running.

The Titans have a tough offensive end in Jeff Smith who has been on the receiving end of 28 of Quirings tosses. The Knights havent been able to mount much of an offensive threat since they began league play, but it could be different against Poway, the first of San Marcos league opponents that it should meet on even terms. Quirings passing could spell trouble since pass defense has been the Knights weakness. But the running of Jerry Rabe, Ron Gonzales and Randy Lissey might be able to offset the Titan passing attack. Against four common league opponents, the Knights have scored 26 points and the Titans IS.

But San Marcos has given up 89 points while Poway has allowed 64. The Titans were shut out by Army-Navy and Fallbrook and the By RON KENNEY Times-Advocate Staff Writer SAN MARCOS Comes Friday and the big game for San Marcos against the Poway Titans their cousins in the Escondido Union High School District. Itll be at 8 p.m. at Escondidos Memorial Field and will wrap up the first football season in the history of both schools. San Marcos will be the home game.

The Knights havent won a Pal-omar League game. But, tnen neither have the Titans. San Marcos has two wins and a tie in its seven -game season record. Pow ay has one victoiy in its seven games. So it will be big in more ways than one.

To the winner will go a successful season and to the loser a cellar finish in ttye Palomar League. In Poways Daro Quiring, the Knights will face the beht quarterback theyve seen all season. Fie Undefeated List Shrinks To 22 By United Press International Four teams suffered their first setbacks of the college football season during the weekend, leaving 22 survivors on the perfect-record list. Oilers Work Way To Top In The East Zeke Supplies Zip Talent Thin For Majors Player Draft NEW YORK (UPI) BanebalTs annual draft list was made public Monday and if you can find any real playing talent on it, kindly notify all 20 major league clubs. Despite the slim pickings on the list however, many of the major league clubs are expected to draft more minor leaguers than usual at Tampa, Nov. 27 due to the inroads which the military already has made on some of the rosters.

Most, if not all of the minor league plums have been carefully protected by the major league dubs which own them, so there are precious few bargains available on the draft list Possibly the most fertile dub from which the majors can draft players is Toronto of the International League, which owner Jack Kent Cooke operates independent of any major league league working agreement Toronto Players Draftable Every player on the Toronto roster save one, Harold Gelein, is available in the regular draft at $25,000 each. Among those wrho may appeal to some major league dubs are such ex-big leaguers as Steve Demeter, Ellis Burton, R. C. Stevens, Rip Coleman and Ken Hamlin. Ex-Yankee pitcher Jim Bron-stad, currently on the Richmond roster, could be among those selected in the regular draft Or possibly pitcher Dave Stenhouse of Jersey City.

For those clubs who might prefer to gamble on more experienced performers, they can choose from among aitch former big leaguers as Chuck Tanner, Warren Hacker, Rubon Gomez, Rodolfo Adas, Gino Cimoli, Julio Becquer, Ken Lehman, Cal Nee-man, Ray Jablorbki, Willard Schmidt, Don Resent or een age old Luke Easier, who is up for grabs year in and year out. Off To Fast Start From the opening minutes of the game at Yankee Stadium, when Y. A. Tittle completed a fluke 30-yard touchdown pass to Dei Shof-ner, It was evident that Sunday was the Giants day. A crowd of 62,800 watched them join the Eagles in first place with a 7-2 record. Two more breaks within a spani of two minutes early in the second half helped New York break the game wide open, 3S-7.

Rookie Bob Gaiters fumbled as he carried from the five-yard line and had to recover the ball in the end zone twice for a Giant touchdown. Shortly afterward, linebacker Tom Scott intercepted a Sonny Jurgensen pass and raced 65 yards to score. Tittle completed 18 of 24 passes for a total of 307 yards. With three minutes gone in the first period, he missed Kyle Rote with a pass, only to have two Philadelphia defenders bdt the ball around in the air and into the "hands of Shofner, who carried over for New Yorks fust score. LOS ANGELES (UPI) Coaches Bob Waterfield of Los Angeles and Red Hickey of San Fran ciaco wore in agreement Monday that good blocking and sharp tackling were responsible for the Rams 17-7 victory over the Forty Niners Sunday. But it took a top performance by Zcke Bratkowski, whose passing was clicking, to bring the Rams from behind in the fourth period. After Los Angeles took a 10-7 lead in the final quarter, the home club capitalized on a break to pick up another touchdown in the final seconds of the game.
