6C The NAPA VALLEY REGISTER Thursday, October 26, 2000 OBITUARIES aid forget os tiie best patio IFergive always Dear Ann Landers: I just found out that my best friend was sleeping with a guy I was dating the entire time we were together. I broke up with the guy a while ago, but Leanne does not understand why this has destroyed our friendship. Several mutual friends knew she was cheating with my boyfriend, but they didn't tell me. I understand why, and have forgiven them. However, Leanne says I am hard-boiled and just plain mean.

I am not a mean person, Ann, but I simply cannot forgive and forget. I have no desire to continue our friendship, and I'm not sure she was ever a real friend in the first place. I work with Leanne and must see her every day. It makes my stomach turn just to be around her. I cannot explain how hurt I am by her betrayal.

Do you have any advice for me? Anna in Chico, Calif. Dear Anna: Yes, I do. GET OVER IT! You dont have to be her friend, but holding a grudge is never a good idea. My sons friends are a great bunch of kids who get along well together. Maggie's son, Chris, is a bit of a bully.

He has academic problems, and makes fun of my son and his friends. None of the kids likes him. Maggie often expects me to invite Chris over to play. She also assumed he was invited to my sons birthday party and planned her vacation around it, even though I had not intended to ask him. My son is completely miserable whenever Chris is around, but the boy still calls and asks to come over.

How can I tell Maggie my son doesnt want to play with Chris? I dont want to hurt her feelings, but I also dont want to force my son to be friends with someone who makes him uncomfortable. Please help me. Im stumped. Mom in the Middle Dear Mom: You do not have to invite Chris every time your son has friends over. On those occasions, tell Maggie, Im so sorry, but my son is busy now.

Well have Chris over another time. However, please consider this opment, rather than simply stored as fat. Be sure to mention the title. DEAR DR. GOTT: Im a 50-year-old diabetic. The disease is well controlled, with Glu-cophage, Glucotrol and regular exercise. But could the medicine be the cause of my impotence? DEAR READER: I doubt it.

Your medications are not usually associated with erectile dysfunction. As you know, diabetes accelerates premature arteriosclerosis, age-related arterial blockage. The effects are more pronounced when the diabetes is poorly controlled. Nonetheless, even with reasonable control, as in your case, ED may be a troublesome problem. ting a failing grade for high bacteria levels.

instead, you and your son should show him how to behave with others, and explain nicely why certain conduct is unacceptable. Build up his self-esteem. If he feels better about himself, he will be less inclined to bully others. And the lesson your son will learn about kindness will serve him well throughout his entire life. Dear Ann Landers: My friend, Lisa, recently moved in with her boyfriend, Frank.

Frank is not from these parts, and doesnt know many people. He clings to Lisa as if she were his only friend. Now, whenever Lisa wants to go anywhere, Frank must go with her. If we invite Lisa to join us, she has to check with Frank, and if he doesnt want to come along, she wont go. Lisa is a great person, but she can't see that Frank is extremely possessive.

She thinks he loves her so much he cant stand to be away from her. Please give us some advice on how to pry her loose. East Coast Friend Dear East: Wake up and smell the coffee. Lisa doesnt wish to be pried loose. She wants Frank in on everything, and thats the way its going to be.

Ask your physician about this. Viagra is a safe drug that should, however, be avoided by men with heart disorders that require nitroglycerine therapy.

DEAR DR. GOTT: Is it true that feeding honey to an infant can be dangerous? DEAR READER: Some types of honey have been found to contain spores from microorganisms called Clostridium botulinum. Although these spores rarely cause disease in adults, they can multiply in the developing intestines of very young infants (less than three months old), and there manufacture a toxin. This toxin causes a disease (infant botulism) that is marked by initial constipation, followed by a progressive paralysis that is permanent unless treated. The diagnosis depends on demonstrating toxin or botulinum organisms in the stool.

Therapy with anti-toxin is ordinarily successful but carries risks because it is made from horse serum. The best treatment is prevention. Therefore, most pediatricians prohibit the use of honey in infants less than a year old. 2000 Creators Syndicate Inc. 257 beaches.

DEAR READER: Thinness and fatness are, to a large degree, genetically determined. However, we can modify our inheritances by under or overeating.

You are slim by any criteria. If you consume a regular diet and dont have an eating disorder, such as bulimia or anorexia, you should be able to put on a few pounds by increasing your portions, snacking and consuming more starches, such as potatoes, rice and pasta. As your caloric consumption rises, it will exceed your metabolic demands; the excess calories will then be stored as fat, and youll gain weight. Because some diseases notable cancer and hyperthyroidism are commonly associated with inability to gain weight, you might want to have a medical checkup to make sure that you are in good health and dont have a hidden or undiscovered ailment.
