Peg 3 BurUy. Idaho Wdntday. February 10. 16 SOUTH IDAHO PRESS Obituaries Topics Slaying no, ie'c g(t a lot of leads, but none are very strong," Kranovich said Kranovich said autopsy results, released on Tuesday, showed Mrs. Nichols definitely died from a gunshot wound in the back.

He added a bullet was removed, but he would hot say what caliber it was. "We're afraid to let out information on the ballistics because if it's local we don't want somebody out there dumping a gun," he sa id. Kranovich said another lead his office and the Nevada Division of Investigation were pursuing is whether a man arrested in Tonopah is involved in the Elko County deaths. Kranovich said the man allegedly stole a car from Carlin around the time of the suspected murders and was arrested in Nye County for investigation of possession of stolen property. At first, police through an Idaho man implicated in the murders of his two brothers might have shot Nichols.

Since then, Victor Wade, 68, of Malad City, has "virtually been excluded" from suspicion in that case. Kranovich said. A man tentatively identified as Wade shot himself to death before his car crashed in a violent fireball in Elko on Feb. 2. Wade was wanted for questioning in the murders of his two brothers in Idaho.

The three apparently had a long-standing dispute over farm property near Malad City. David Haneline, chief of the Nevada Division of Investigation, said it was hoped a positive identification of the man would be made today. Meanwhile, he said a bullet fragment taken from the man's body could not be identified, but it was believed it came from the (Continued from page I rant to extensively scarf Jarolimek's car. He expected the search to be completed later today. No motive has been determined, although robbery has not been ruled out.

Harris said Jarolimek's wallet has not been found, but that a pocket watch was on his person and other personal property, including some change, was in the vehicle. Harris said there is an indication that Jarolimek may have stopped at Jackpot, Nev. for a break enroute to California, but there is no indication he won any sum of money that would have prompted someone to murder him. Harris said the family described Jarolimek as a "casual gambler" and doubted that he stopped long in Jackpot because he was expected in California at a certain time. Jarolimek apparently made fairly frequent trips to California to assist his in-laws in a family business.

Elko authorities are still asking that anyone who may have been driving along that stretch of U.S. 93 early Sunday morning, when the murder is believed to have occurred, and may have noticed anything rele-vent to the case, call Detective Curtis Watson at the Elko County sheriff's office. "We want to know if there were any hitchhikers seen or if anybody picked one up," said Elko Sheriff Jim Miller. "The only thing we know right now is he was traveling to Perils, California which is near San Bernardino, for employment. And when he left Idaho, he was alone." Jarolimek was married and had two children.

A complete obituary and announcement of services appears on page 2 today. Meanwhile, in Carlin, Police Chief Mike Kranovich was trying to solve the murder of gas station attendant Barbara Nichols. 45. DiazGranados noted in the report that a general appreciation for communication between schools and patrons in the district was realized. And, the issue of school consolida-tiori is still prominent, DiazGranados said. "It is clear that the consolidation issue is not dead issue will need serious and continued discussion," he said. AAurfaugh (Continued from page 1) Superintendent Dr. Frederick DiazGranados responded to some survey results in a published report after the results were tabulated. DiazGranados suggests the survey was only marginally successful in terms of the number of responses the district received. Out of 280 surveys sent out, only 41 were returned. Fifteen percent of district patrons completed surveys.

"In spite of the small number of forms returned, there are several clear trends that are emerging," DiazGranados said in the report. "It is clear that there is great satisfaction with the elementary school program, and great general dissatisfaction with middle school and high school programs." DiazGranados said it was easy to see why people are dissatisfied with the middle and high school programs, but suggests that many people haven't really considered some recent changes in the programs. "It is easy to see why this (satisfaction with elementary, and dissatisfaction with middle and high school programs) is so, but many of the (survey) comments seem to have neglected to take into account the many improvements we have begun during the past year," DiazGranados reported. Henry Penner, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, died from head injuries caused by the fall, according to Jerome County Coroner Gerald Ostler.

Jerome County Sheriff Elza Hall said no foul play is suspected. Penner was apparently traveling alone, returning to Canada from Keno Bay, Mexico, on Jan. 26. His car was found Jan. 30 in a ditch alongside Eden Road, about five miles south of Eden.

Officials had conducted an extend powerful position as a senator or something else, considerable power. They are very Darrington said. "I would never say he will be a cabinet officer, but he will be in a powerful position in the Bush administration," Darrington said, comparing McClure's possible influence to that of Sen. Paul Laxalt in the Reagan administration. Bush's son Neil told reporters in Boise last week that McClure "would make a great Interior secretary But McClure, who is one of seven national co-chairmen of Bush's campaign for the GOP presidential nomination, said at a news conference Tuesday in Pocatello that he has no desire to get into administrative work.

McClure is the ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. "There are 78,000 employees there (in the Interior Department) and that's an administrative nightmare," he said. "I like to discuss policy and to help make policy that is what I do best." demonstrated in this (survey) exercise, we feel that we have gained some valuable information, and that now, as a (school) board and (district) administration we must address these issues what is best for the students we serve in this district," he said. ed search last Thursday and then suspended efforts until Saturday when 16 members from the Search and Rescue resumed the search. Family members of Penner assisted in the search.

Sheriff Hall said the man's car had run into a concrete ditch after making a U-turn through a grain field. Penner apparently walked in a southwesterly direction toward the canyon. After walking to the canyon's edge he apparently went down to a ledge roughly 50 feet below the rim and then fell about 200 feet to another ledge. No autopsy or further investigation is planned. McUure said Bush was "certainly disappointed" by his third-place finish in Monday's Iowa caucuses.

He said Robertson, who finished a surprising second behind Senate Minority Leader Dole in Iowa, "certainly demonstrated that he has the political organization and the enthusiasm that translates into political support." But McClure said he disagrees with the nominating process, and said he did not know why the rest of the nation should be influenced by the early votes in a few, sparsely populated states like Iowa and New Hampshire. On the Idaho State Steering Committee, Darrington will be joined by more than a dozen of the state's most prominent Republican leaders and activists, according to Idaho Campaign Chairman state Senate President Pro Tern James Risch.
