Arthur Z. Holmes. Arthur Z. Holmfs, ono of the most popular joung men of tho city, died BO suddenly on Thursday evening that his relatives are almost prostrated, and bis many friends will be so profoundly shocked as to scarcely ba able to credit the news. Having passed the evening out, he returned to his home in Humphreys' court about eleven o'clock.

He had barely stepped into the hall when he fell, uttering an exclamation which was heard by bis father upstairs. I Brilliant Reception At Commandant's Residence A Feature. The visit of Hon Frank W. Haokelt, esist secretary of the navy, to the 'or'smouth navy yard was brought to a most pleasant conclusion. At noon a reception followed at the esidence of Admiral Cromwell and it was the nuost brilliant affair of the resenl social eeason. The admiral and Mrs.

Cromwell had invited about fifty fiends to meet the assistant secretary for an hour and a half the interior of the admiral's residence was full ol ife. Tho officers of the Dolphin came up frcm the lower harbor at 11:45 o'clock, and the steam yacht Awago, owned by Merrill Hunt Boston, brought a from the Wentworth while the yard ferry made a special trip rom Portsmouth at 11:30 o'clock, with party of twenty-five, and several private carriages arrived from Kittery i'oint. The naval baud under the direction of Bandmaster Remewald rendered a fine concert from the bandstand. A unoh that was most delicious was isrved in a manner that gave tho guests much pleasure. "Bub" Moulton Given Ninety Days and Promised Six Months. Judge Emery sent Uuury T. Moulton, a rounder known as "Bub," to tue house of correction for a term of ninety days, this forenoon, for drunkenness, tie was promised six months ou his next appearance in court. Moulton was arrested on Liberty street by Officer Holbrook and gave the officer considerable trouble in coming to tho station. The court was of the opinion that Moulton was too much of a bother to the police, anyway, and told him what to expect in the future.
