Many former Xewporters returned to enjoy the celebration, and many family reunions added to the pleasures ot Ihe day. The same evening Minneola Council, Daughters ot Pocahonlas, gave a basket social in their hail in the Southwlck building, which was well attended. After the social the baskets were sold at auction. The parade was started earlier than usual, but the crowds on tlie streets assumed the usual Election day rropor- tions, the sidewalk's along the route were and houses and clubrooms afforded a good view of tte parade were "JIM THE PEX1IAX." There was only a small audience at Ihc Opera House last evening to sec the performance of tho well-known play, "Jim the Penman," which in former years was one of the most remarkable successes of the stage. Both play and performance deserved a larger attendance. The drama is as strong and effective as ever, and the presenting company was soed throughout. Mr.

H. M. Till has had many years of experience on lite stage, and this was of to him Iu his portrayal of the difficult role of James flalston, which presented many admirable qualities. Miss Marie Edith Rice, as Mrs. Ralston, a character made famous by Agnes Booth, was also excellent, and her rendition recalled Iu many particulars the line work which made Mrs.

Booth so successful In the role. Mr. Charles Marriott had many opportunities as Captain licdwood, the detective, to show tils dramatic ability, and succeeded well In making Ihe part one of the leading features of the play. Mr. J.
