"Dub" West The lonely, unkept grave of Susan Fields, the granddaughter of the Immortal Sequoyah, has been flagrantly desecrated by vandals and grave tliie- ves, as will be shown by the accompanying photograph. The grave is located about a mile east of Texanna io the northeast corner of Mcintosh County. The tomb was made of flagstone shaped in the form of a coffin, carefully fitted together.

Mrs. Fields lived to be 104 years of age and told her granddaughter, Mrs. Sallie Toney Davis some InU erestlng stories concerning their famous ancestor, Sequoyah. Robert Davis, son of Mrs. Davis, and the great, great, great grandson of Sequoyah is standing by the grave.

Mrs. Fields was the daugb-; ter of Tessee Guess and her mother was the daughter of the famous Chief Bowles, who was Chief of the Texas Cher okees. Mrs. Fields, along with 179ot- her Cherokees from Texas were removed first to Choc- tew Country, then to Chero. kee Dutch's Settlement alone Dutch's Creek, now erroneously called Duchess Creek, 1 1840.
