Tulsa fur the last few weeks is the striking of a deep vein Of coal on the lot of A Owen on North Main street near the Shirentanwagon yard The strata is thought to be about nine feet in thickness and at a depth of something over $(8) feet The strike was made early Thuroday morning or during the night preceding In conversation ivith Mr A Owen that gentleman talked freely saying that ha had nothmg to ronrool Ile state that the coal was a hard black of a send-anthracite nature of an extremely valuable character Mr Owen was drilling for gas and although coal has been found at a number of pointa in town no thought entertained of such a find at this depth Hitherto coal has been discovered at different points at a depth of about 240 feet the vein hating variously estimated from three to five feet In this hole an upper vein was found measuring something like 28 inches in thickness It is 250 feet deep Drilling will be continued until the oil and gas strata is passed This lode of cipal is within less than two blocks of the Frisco depot in the very heart of the city Its importance cannot be overestimated With a fine layer of coal under Tulsa coupled with its other resources not can detract from our future importance--Tulma Democrat 1 I lin I 01 THE INSINUATION DANGEROVS The tendency of most people is to be senseo Ilonal They enjoy a sensation especially when fellow IIIVEtal le
