Physician anil Surgeon Oklahoma Olflct in Pcorcft'a SOFT DRINK TAX After May 1, when you buy a dish of ice cream, an ice cream sundae, or any confection or drink made at the soda fountain, you must pay the price asked, and then pay in addition the luxury tax of 1 cent on each ten cents, or fraction thereof. A sundae Which costs 15 cents now will cost 17 cents, but if you buy a pint or more of ice cream and carry it home with you, or have it delivered in bulk, there will be no tax according to the intepretation placed by local dealers upon the luxury tax law, recently passed by congress. If you buy a bottle of soda pop or other bottje drinks of that nature, there will be no tax, as the tt turers, because of the decreased cost of materials, are going to absorb the tax. But if you buy such a drink that is mixed for you and does not come in a bottle, the tax of one cent for each 10 cents or fraction of the price must be paid. Drinks which are made from cereals or cereal substitutes are already taxable.

The manufacturers add the 15 per cent tax to all goods they deliver. Local manfacturers say they pay the tax to the government, and it is up to the retailer to increase the price of the drink, or to absorb the tax and pay it themselves, charging the former price just ss they choose. To prevent retailors, who sell luxuries, including such beverages, from increasing the price to amount that would more than pay the tax, the internal revenue bureau at Washington explained that retailers may not incluede the tax in the selling price but foust specify the amount of tax in collecting it from the customer. Taxes on toilet articles will be collected by sale, of stamps, to-be bought by the retailers and affixed to each sold.
