Mr. Pelissa was a Napa County Planning Commissioner from 1962 to 1976, was a founder of the Agriculture Preserve and was known as the father of the Green Belt. He was a past president of the Napa County Farm Supply.

St. Helena Co-Op Winery and was on the Napa County Airport Advisory Committee from 1962 to 1976. During his life, he was a rancher, dairyman, viticulturist, cattlemen and a partner in the Bridgeford Flying Service since 1989. Mr. Pelissa is survived by his wife of 61 years, Veola Babe two daughters, Dawne Dickenson of Napa and Marilyn Harris of Yountville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

IBs son, Andrew L. predeceased him in 1952. Two sisters, Edith Wilson and Ann Navone, also predeceased him. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Yountville Cemetery with Father Michael Cleary officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 1432 Main St. Helena. Donations may be made to Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation. Charles Kindell Charles Edward Kindell, 85, died Wednesday at Queen of the Valley Hospital.

Mr. Kindell was bom in Logan County, Ohio, on Sept. 15, 1906, to Harold. William and Alice (Hulsizer) Kindell. He was raised and educated in Logan County and following graduation from high school he came to California and lived in San Francisco.

He later entered the Merchant Andrew Pelissa Pioneer Napa County rancher Andrew Lee Pelissa, 84, died Wednesday after suffering a stroke. Mr. Pelissa was bom on the family ranch in Calistoga on Jan. 14, 1907, to Joseph and Mary Pelissa. He grew up there and attended local schools, including the old Tucker Farm School.

His family operated a vineyard which he worked on. He married Veola Babe Hale on Aug. 30, 1930, and they made then-home in Oakville where Mr. Pelissa operated the family dairy. In the late 1930s, the Pelissas purchased the George Yount Ranch in Yountville where they operated a dairy until 1971.

In 1956, they planted their first vines. Currently they supply grapes to 20 wineries in the Napa Valley. In addition to their Yountville ranch, the couple owned and operated the on June 26, 1923, to John J. and Linnie Cole Mitchell. He came to California at age 15 months with his parents and two older sisters, Sybil and Josie.

Although the family lived all over the state while Mr. Mitchell was growing up he considered Sebastopol, where he graduated from Analy High School, his home. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946. Mr.

Mitchell was employed as a plant maintenance mechanic at Sugar Refinery in Crockett until his retirement in 1983. He married Sharon Baumberger of San Pablo in 1976 and they made their home in Napa where Mr. Mitchell raised antique variety apples, making his own apple juice and growing popcorn. He was a member of Napa Ballroom Dancers, St. Johns Lutheran Church, International Dove Society, American Federation of Aviculture, Redwood Empire Cage Bird Club, Redwood Empire Chapter of California Rare Fruit Growers, Napa Valley Museum and Napa Valley Landmarks.

Besides gardening, his other hobbies were woodworking, raising tropical birds, and California history and travel. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Sharon of Napa; two daughters, Shelley Caviness of Santa Rosa and Lynn Nance of Fremont; one brother, Cecil of Seaside; four grandchildren; and several cousins. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday at St.Johns Lutheran Church, Ronald L.

Scherer FORT WAYNE, Ind. Former Napa resident Ronald L. Scherer. 54, died Tuesday at St. Josephs Medical Center.

Mr. Scherer was born in Fort Wayne and returned there about two months ago to be near his family. An accountant, he had worked for Basalt Pre-Cast Company of Napa for 13 years and previously had worked for Dillingham Construction Corporation of Honolulu, Hawaii, for 12 years. Mr. Scherer was a veteran of the U.S.

Navy and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Napa. He is survived by his parents, Louis and Gertrude Scherer; two brothers, Jack A. of Ossian, and David L. of Fort Wayne.

The service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Fort Wayne, on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. A celebration service will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Napa at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials are preferred to St. Johns Lutheran Church of Napa, 2521 Linda Vista Napa, 94558. Marines and served for about 10 years. Mr. Kindell met Eunice Plyler in Long Beach when his ship was in port.

They married in Santa Cruz in 1936. Following his tour of duty, Mr. Kindell went to work at Hunters Point in San Francisco. He retired in 1965 after 31 years of service as a rigging supervisor. He moved in 1986 to Napa from San Francisco.

While raising his family, he was active in the St. Bruno Parish activities and Capuchino High School P.T.A. in San Bruno. A lifelong 49er season ticket holder, Mr. Kindell pitched semi-pro baseball for about five years on his way to California.

He was an active member of the Hunters Point Retirement Group from 1966 to 1986. Mr. Kindell is survived by two daughters, Carol Maltoni of Cupertino and Eileen True of Fresno; two brothers, Robert of Belle Foun-taine, Ohio, and Herbert of Logan-ville, one sister, Lois Fawcett of Belle Fountaine, Ohio; and seven grandsons. His wife passed away in 1966. Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Friday at Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, with the Rev. Father Michael A. Cleary officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St.

Apollinaris Catholic Church, 3700 Lassen Napa, with the Rev. Rather Cleary as celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Friends may call at the fimeral home today until 8 p.m., on Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
