Hogg of Phillips Exeter academy was the guest speaker. He talked on English schools and the way the British' are meeting the present conditions in England. Explaining that the public schools as we in the United States know them, are called secondary schools and others, although public, are open opsn to those who can pay tuition lees, the speaker said that these secondary schools are the targets for German gunners, who are apparently endeavoring to stop educational facilities in England, as these secondary schools are picked out as special targets by German bombing planes. Many interesting facts concerning how the British are meeting conditions at the present time and 'their indomitable spirit were told by the speaker. It is the tradition in England, so the speaker asserted, to send one's son to the "house" connected with the school, such as Rugby, rather than to pick out the college with which the "house" (which compares in this country with a fraternity house) is connected.

This custom which is handed down from father to son from one generation to another has prevailed In England for many years. gram was in charge of acting lecturer Mrs. Rhoda Van Horn of Hampton Falls and was opened with the singing by all of "America the Beautiful," with Mrs. Maud A. Ring presiding at th-e piano.

A reading, "The Early Life of George i Washington," was then giver, by I Mrs. Margaret S. Noyes, following which the rendition of "Seeing Nellie Home" was'given by a quartet composed of Mrs. Eva Dunbrack, Mrs. Eudora Chase, Rev.

Calvin Warburton a'nd Jerome Selleck, with Mrs. Dunbrack and Mrs. Chase in old-fashioned costumes. A relay race was next 'presented by the acting lecturer, Mrs. Van Horn, in which 20 took part.

The two sides were captained by Deputy Herman Kruger and Mrs. Marion Hammond, with the former side losing to the latter. A reading, "Revival of the Gay Nineties," was then given by Mrs. Alice Elliot, A contest in which all took part afforded much amusement, as the. object was cutting down a cherry tree (with scissors.)
