Napa Valley swimmers earn 'A' times PITTSBURG Fourteen swimmers from the Napa Valley Swim Team competed in a short course meet earlier this month, with the following swimmers, earning A times: Laurel Frisinger In the 10-and-under girls 100 breast; Erica Hague in the 50 back for 11 and 12 girls; Erik Studley in the 50 back and the 100 fly for 11 and 12 boys; William Hise in the 500 free and the 50 breast for the 11 and 12 boys; and Shea Stephens in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back and 100 fly for 13 and 14 boys. Braves go 2-1 in tourney ST. HELENA Justin-Siena High Schools 2-1 start in the Napa Indian Softball Invitational Tournament Saturday gave the Braves a 13-3 overall record going into todays 3:30 p.m. Superior California Athletic League game at St. Helena.

The Braves are 5-0 in league play. They will play Napa High Saturday when the tournament resumes at 9:15 a.m. on the Indians diamond. Justin-Siena lost its first game to St. Francis-Sacramento, 5-0, as Cathy OConnor worked all seven innings, allowing four hits.

Kim Sailius had two hits for Justin-Siena. In the second game, the Braves blasted Vallejo, 21-0, as OConnor threw a no-hitter in the five-inning game. Justin-Sienas top bitters were Nancy Brace, two hits; Kim Thompson, two hits; Nyrene Clark, a double; Lisa O'Connor, two hits; Erin Moone, two hits; and Kim Sailius, with one hit. Justin-Siena concluded the first day by downing Vacaville, 7-1, as OConnor got the win. The leading hitters for the Braves were Betty Lu, one hit; Julie Cullinane, S-for-3; Kim Thompson, two hits; Clark, two hits, including a triple; Lisa OConnor, two doubles; and Sailius, with one hit.

We really topped it off well, coach Joe Mangiaracina said after the Braves collected 11 hits. Vintage badminton team 4-0 Vintage High Schools 8-7 win over Armijo Friday set the stage for todays Monticello Empire League badminton showdown against Vallejo at 3:30 p.m. in the Crushers gymnasium. Vintage and Vallejo will both enter the match with 4-0 records. Rosemarie Morales, Shaunte Beatty and Andi Smith all won their singles matches, and the doubles teams of Marieanne Copon-Clara Cruz, Smith-Beatty, Giuliette Aquino-Morales, Jay Ham-Hanne Sonder, and Dawn Lowe-Janell Dickhaus won in doubles play to lift Vintage past Armijo.

The results: Vintage netmen lose VALLEJO. Vintage High Schools 4-3 boys tennis loss to Armijo Friday left the Crushers and coach Jerry Nelson 4-3 in the Monticello Empire League, 7-3 overall going into todays 3 p.m. match at Vallejo. Those wishing to drive cars beyond the entrance will have to display a 1989 parking permit. A drawing for 100 of these $5 permits will be held on April 28. Those wishing to apply for a permit should mail a postcard to the California Department of Fish and Game, Region 3, P.O. Box 47, Yountville, 94599, to arrive before April 25, at 5 p.m. The postcard should be addressed: Joice Island Parking Permit, followed by the name, address, telephone number, fishing license number, drivers license number and automobile license number of the applicant.

Only one application from a household is permitted, and applicants must be 18 years old or older. Anyone sending in more than one application will be automatically disqualified. One hundred postcards will be drawn. Successful applicants will be notified by mail, and will have until May 15, 1989, to pick up the permit at the Yountville Regional Office. Applicants must appear in person to sign a waiver of liability.

In addition to fishermen, one-day vehicle permits are available for bird watchers, photographers, on a first-come basis. Under the new California Wildlands Program, an access fee will be charged for those users who do not possess a current hunting, fishing or trapping license, or wildlife area annual pass. The daily access fee is $2. Wildlife Area annual passes for individuals cost 10 and are good for the calendar year. They permit access to nine Wildlife Areas and Reserves in California.

They may be purchased at any hunting or fishing license retail outlet or at any Fish and Game Department office. For more information, call Grizzly Island Wildlife Area at (707 425-3828. Special Olympics seeking volunteers Napa Valley Special Olympics is seeking volunteers to help run its annual gymnastics meet on April 29 and annual track and field meet May 13, spokesperson Linda Klein said. The gymnastics meet, to be held at Gym Quest of Napa, runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The track and field meet, to be held at Vintage High Schools track, starts at 10 a.m. following a registration period beginning at 8 a.m.
