The Lutherans had some special meetings 5 last week. Mrs. Spitzler, near Cross Roads, is in very poor health. Mr. David Buck is suffering from a large carbuncle on the back of the neck.

Aiisses Aiary ana Annie Hutchinson are visiting friends in Indiana county. a. u. natchison is buying wheat, tit is paying eighty cents per bushel at this time The families of Thomas Davis and Rob ert Hanna, of J'rogtown, have the diphthe ria. Two more of Mr.

John Fetterhoff 's fata ity have diphtheria John and the baby. We hope they will soon be well. Mr. William Stephens is fattening a hog that will dress from 600 to 700 pounds. It is the largest porker that we have ever seen.

Frank Nearhoof is having his store-room pushed forward as rapidly as possible, lie wants to get into it for his increasing trade. Mr. and Mrs. E. J.

Neff, spent last week on Shaver Creek. Their many friends there were both former residents of that noted valley. J. W. Sylvis, who has been out in Me Kean county for some time, has returned, with his family, to Dry Hollow, where he is engaged as engineer.

E. A. Walters came here with a warrant for a young man who had done some wrong in Bedford county, lie got his man and took him to Bedford. Mr. Daniel Kinch, an aspirant for the office of mayor of Altoona, spent Saturday with his many friends in this place, who would like to see him honored by being elected mayor of your city.

John Wilson and Milton Patterson have came home from the Lock Haven Normal school owing to the prevalence of typhoid fever in that city. There are over 150 cases there, and also several in the school. It has rained for every month for twenty months and some months every week. The rain fall at this place on the night of the Johnstown flood was six and one-half inches from 5 o'clock till 10, or in five hours. Dr.

T. C. Patterson came near being killed on Sunday night. His horse became frightened and ran into his cellar. The doctor jumped from the dog cart and saved himself.

The horse came out all right, but the cart was badly used up. A "harvest service" will be held in the Presbyterian church in Warriorsmark next Sunday at 3 p. m. This service will be quite novel and instructive, nnder the efficient management of their genial- pastor, Eev. H.

H. Henry. All are cordially invited. Our schools are doing well. The select school has a good attendance.

Miss Goemer is a good teacher and is liked by her scholars. Miss Mary Gert is doing good work in the school room. "Jason" is doing well for one so young. -He is a number one teacher and his scholars like him. He is about starting a class in short hand.

Miss Ella Ralst jn is a hard worker in the school room and her work is being crowned with success. We hear a complaint that one of our teachers is lazy. We hope this is not true; the profession has no use for lazy people. It costs this township $338 per month to pay its teachers and it wants a fair return for its money. The taxpayers of Franklin and Warriors-mark townships would like to know something about the letting of the many bridges that have been and are being built in our county.

They pay over $8,000 taxes per year and they think there ought to have been an advertised letting. Here is an item for Blair county taxpayers to think on: The stone work for the white bridge cost over $7 per yard. The stone work for the last bridge was let at 2.35 per yard. The last was at a public and advertised letting. Where there is near $100,000 worth of work to do there ought to be an advertised and public letting.

This is the way to do, Messrs. County Commissioners, to keep the taxpayers from talking about you. On Sunday morning, as Captain Rum-barger, three daughters and a lady friend, Miss Bendel, who teaches the Dry Hollow school, were on their way to the Methodist Episcopal church, the front axle of the spring wagon in which they were riding broke and the horse started to run down the steep hill above town. When near the church Mr. Bell Nearhoof ran out and stopped the horse.

The four persons were all thrown out on the ground. Little Maggie was cut about the face and the young ladies were badly shaken up, but no bones were broken. We cannot see what saved them. They should be truly thankful for their safe deliverance. The horse was hurt about the legs and the wagon is a wreck, but it can soon be put in good shape.

WILLIAMSBURG WAIFS. There will be services in the Lutheran church next Sunday morning, at 10.30. Rev. D. Conway will preach on Sunday in Canoe Valley in the morning and in Wil-ltamsburg in the evening.

The company quarry is again running almost its full capacity. Rip-rap stone for South Fork, ballast for Gallizin and building stone. The extension of the Williamsburg branch as far as the Juniata Limestone company's quarry has been turned over to the Altoona division. Cars have been placed in position for the loading of limestone for furnace use at Car-lim. The first shipments go to Bessemer for Carnegie Bros.

Co. Joseph Howard husked 165 bushels of corn in eleven and three-quarter hours, and is now ready to lay down the gauntlet to any one for the same length of time. Will Fay is moving Will Lower's saw mill to Roaring Spring. Will means business. The people of Roaring Spring will find him full of go-aheadativeness.

Billy Breneman is fixed up as snug as a bug in a rug in his office at Springfield Junction. A new office, new machinery and, in fact, Billy feels like a new man. Mrs. D. Warner and son, of Double Pipe Creek, Maryland, after a two months' visit among friends in Kentland, Indiana, are visiting Rev.

E. J. Metzler ere they go home. The Pennsylvania railroad shop whistle, or fog horn, is heard so regularly and distinctly that the people correct their time pieces by it, and they are about correct so far as time goes. Judge Gardner has had wells put down by drilling one over ninety feet and the one at Franklin Forge not so deep.

At a depth of seventy feet they came onto a sand rock, and after going through it came onto limestone. Mrs. John Wagner, whose sudden death was announced in Monday's Tribune, was a good woman, in disposition untiring, a consistent member of the Lutheran church in Williamsburg. She leaves a husband and large family to mourn- for her. The funeral took place on Monday.

The largest part of the work is done on the three-mile dam and what remains to do is filling in at the foot of the pile sheeting. It is said by competent judges to be a most excellent piece of work. The mason work is a substantial and neat job. The bulk head or pier is as good as ever it was. Report of Roller's school for month ending November 15, Edith E.

Moore, teacher: Number of pupils enrolled, males 8, females 12; total 20. Average attendance, 16; percentage, 89. The following missed no time: Fannie Roller, Maud Roller, Millie Sailor, Lizzie Pheasant, Martha McDermitt, George Roller, Albert Fry. While we are writing our "Waifs" we hear the Presbyterian church bell tolling, announcing the departure of little Johnnie Allender's soul to the better world. Johnnie was the 6-year-old son of James D.
