Mary Buehne Mary O. Buehne, 66, formerly of St. Rose but a Highland resident for seven years, died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1983, at the Breese Nursing Home, She was born Mar.

6, 1917 in St. Rose to Ben and Clara Middeke Horstmann, then married August Buehne in St. Rose Church Oct. 28, 1936. She was a member of St.

Paul's Catholic Church, Highland, the church's choir and Ladies Altar Sodality; the St. Rose Altar Sodality, and Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include sons David and Gervase of St. Rose; brothers John Horstmann of Breese, Gene Horstmann of Trenton and Vincent Horstmann of Highland; sisters Vera Netemeyer and Rose Schumacher of Aviston, Bernice Poettker of rural Trenton, and Viola Wilson of Eureka, and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, from St. Rose Church, with Father Carl Pimeskern and Msgr. John Fellner officiating, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held after 2 p.m. Friday at Moss Funeral Home, Breese, and the Rosary was recited at St. Rose Church at 8 p.m. Friday. John Danhour John N.

Danhour, 71, of W. Covena, California, and formerly of the Boulder area, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1983, at the Inter-Community Hospital in Covena, Calif. Born Dec. 30, 1911 in Centralia, he was the son of the late John and Zora Huffman Danhour.

He was a veteran of WW I and had been a piping designer in the construction business. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Beverly Icenogle of Redwood City, Calif. Funeral services are pending at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle. Robert Goebel Robert F.

Goebel, 59, originally of New Baden but a rural Breese resident for the past five years, died about 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 1983, at St. Joseph Hospital, Breese. He was born June 30, 1924 in Damiansville to Joseph and Anna Wegmann Goebel, then married Cecelia Horvath Dec.

26, 1963, at St. George Church, New Baden. Survivors include his wife; children Lisa and Anthony, both at home; and sister Rita Venhaus of New Baden. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Viola Billhartz, who died in June of 1977. Goebel was a milk tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and former owner of Goebel's Store in New Baden.

He was a member of St. Augustine Parish, the St. Augustine Men's Sodality, formerly serving as secretary; the Breese American Legion Post 252, and the Musicians Local 175. He was a former. member of the New Baden Lions and New Baden Chamber of Commerce.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, from St. Augustine Church, Breese, with Father Richard Mohr officiating, and burial was in the Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden. Visitation was held after 2 p.m.

Monday at Moss Funeral Home, Breese. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Ruth Gross Ruth M. Gross, 92, of Carlyle, died Friday morning, Oct. 7.

1983, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born in Creol Springs to Elbert and Mary Hudgens Mcinturff, then married Theo- Viola F. Beckmann, 69, of rural Carlyle, died as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 1983.

She was pronounced dead about 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital, Breese. She was born in Wheatfield Township to Henry and Caroline Wolff Hilgemann, then married Ferdinand Beckmann at St. John's United Church of Christ, Breese, Feb.

27, 1935. He survives. Other survivors include daughter Ruth Murray of St. Louis; and brother Wilbert Hilgemann of Jasper, Minn. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Carlyle, and a life-long resident of Wheatfield Township.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Elmer Bowman and Rev. W.J. Schweikhart officiating, and burial was in St.

John's Cemetery, Breese. Visitation was held at ZierenDay Funeral Home, Carlyle, after 3 p.m. Tuesday, and until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday; then at the church from noon until time of services. Helen Boeser Viola Beckmann Helen B.

Boeser, 78, of Highland, died at 2:22 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 1983, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland. She was born Apr.

3, 1905 in Troy to Philip and Ollie Isaac Hencke, then first married Raymond Bugger, who died in 1932. She then married Leo J. Boeser Feb. 26, 1935, and he survives. Other survivors include son Jerry Boeser of Edwardsville; daughter Delores Tonnies of New Baden; sisters Rosa Wiesemeyer of Pocahontas and Emma Cadwell of Collinsville; seven grandchildren and two -grandchildren.

One son and one daughter from her first marriage, and four brothers, Raymond, Ralph, Aaron and Alvin Hencke, all preceded her in death. Mrs. Boeser was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, St. Ann Altar Sodiety, and Highland Senior Citizens Club.

She worked for the Pet Milk Company, Highland, and at St. Joseph Hospital in the Laundry Department before retiring i in her late 50s. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, from St.

Paul Church, Highland, with Father Martin Mangan officiating, and burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mabel L. Holland, 64, of Shattuc, died Friday, Oct. 7, 1983, at her home after a sudden illness.

She was born in Shattuc to Ben and Alvena Wedekemper Swagler, then in 1942, she married Harvey J. Holland in Joplin, Mo. include her husband; sons Charles of Centralia, Harvey of Shattuc and Mark of Park Ridge; daughter LuAlice of Kampwerth Carlyle; brothers Earl Swagler of Sandoval, Lewi Lewis and Edgar Swagler, both of Shattuc; sister Alice Swagler of Shattuc; and seven grandchildren. She lived in the Shattuc area all her life; and was a member of the Shattuc United Methodist Church, the Shattuc Senior Citizens, and past president of the Prairie View PTA. Services were held at 2 p.m.

1, 1915. Gross, who was Carlyle's mayor from 1927 to 1949, died Sept. 17, 1963. Survivors include daughter Betty Yost of Phoenix, Ariz. Services were held at the Carlyle Healthcare Center chapel at 3 p.m.

Monday, Rev. Alan Kifner officiating, and burial was in Carlyle Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Healthcare Center from 1 to 3 p.m. n. Monday and Frerker Funeral Home, Carlyle, handled arrangements.

Christina Gutzler Christina Gutzler, 91, of the Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville, died at Washington County Hospital at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 1983. She was born in Hoffman to E. and Christina Brink Kuhlmann, then married Gutzler in Centralia 21, 1912.

He died Oct. 2, 1973. Survivors include sons Ottomar of Nashville and Alve of Bonnie; daughters Wilma Borchelt of Aurora, Rosalie Meinert of New Minden, Jeanette Creamer of St. Louis, and Glenda Brand of Naples, a sister Ella Kuhlmann of Perryville, 19 grandchildren, 28 grandchildren, and five great-greatgrandchildren. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Nashville, and the church Ladies Aid.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Eugene Davidenas officiating, and burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Nashville, Friday evening, and at the church until services Saturday. Mabel Holland Robert Huelsman Robert August Huelsman, 22, of 307 Gardner Dr.

N.E., Fort Walton Beach, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1983 in Fort Walton Beach. He was born in Washington, D.C., and had lived in the Florida area since 1975. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a carpenter.

Surviving are his parents, Herbert H. and Anna M. Huelsman of Fort Walton Beach; brothers, Ronald Huelsman of New. Orleans, Rodney both and Randall Huelsman, of Fort Walton Beach; sisters, Deborah Ann Bower of Germany, Antonia Marie Huelsman of lola, paternal grandmother, Alice Huelsman of Breese; and maternal grandparents, Anton and Marie Endres of Germantown. Visitation was at the MeLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach.

A rosary was said at 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLaughlin Mortuary. A funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at St.

Peter's Catholic Church in Mary Esther with Msgr. James Amos officiating. Augusta Peter Augusta M. Peter, 92, of New Baden, died at her daughter's home in Carlyle Thursday morning, Aug. 6, 1983.

She was born in St. Louis to Henry and Mathildra Struddel Blaetz, then married Eugene Peter, who died in May of 1952. Mrs. Peter was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, New Baden. Survivors include daughter Elizabeth Majeski of Carlyle; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion United Church of Christ, with Rev. Raymond Kuhlenschmidt officiating. and burial was in the New Baden City Cemetery. Visitation held Funeral Home, New Baden, after 4 p.m.

Sunday. Bernard Schlott Bernard W. Schlott, 76, of rural Bartelso, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 1983, at his home. He was born in Santa Fe Township, Clinton County, to Bernard Jacob and Catherine Zachary Schlott, then in 1938.

married Sylvia Davenport in Carlyle. Survivors include sons W. Ben of rural Bartelso, Ken of Hickory Hills and Dennis of. Geneva; daughters Penny Behrens of rural Bartelso, Sandra Lee of Katy, Texas, and Dawn Schlott of Newburgh, sisters Margaret Hustedde of rural Trenton and Helen Thoms of Breese; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Schlott was a retired farmer and member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Frerker Funeral Home, Carlyle, with Rev. Carlyle Scheller officiating, and burial was in Carlyle Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Marian Schmidt Marian Schmidt, 59, of Centralia, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 1983, at Mary's Hospital, "Centralia, following a brief illness. She was born in Hoffman May 11. 1924 to Fred and Anna Gutzler Redeker, then on July -17.

1954, she- married Howard Schmidt at Corinth. Miss. Mrs. Schmidt came to Centralia when she was about 18 years old and worked as a bookkeeper at the Triple Co. For the past six years, she and her husband operated a newspaper delivery route.

She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Centralia, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Survivors include her husband; son Douglas at home; daughter Diana Rink of Centralia; three brothers W.H. Redeker of Centralia, Fred Redeker of Sumpter, S.C., and Marvin Redeker of Belleville. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Oct. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, and burial was in Hillerest Memorial Park. Luer Funeral Home, Centralia, handled. arrangements. Anna Sedacek Anna Sedacek.

82, of rural Carlyle, formerly of the Highland-Marine area, died Friday, Oct. 7. 1983, at the home of her daughter. She was born in Edwardsville to John and Mary Berdick Kesl and on Apr. 20.

1921, married Frank T. Sedlacek, who died Jan. 22, 1968. Survivors include sons Wilbur of Jasper, Raymond of Marine and Leonard of Alhambra; daughters Neudecker of Marine, DonDorothy. nelly of Highland, Verna Jewell of Dodgeville, Betty Potthast of rural Carlyle, and Norma Buchheim of Westchester, Ohio; brother John Kesl of Edwardsville; sisters Agnes Sedlacek and Della Lankford, both of Edwardsville; 35 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, with Rev. Martin Mangan officiating, and burial was in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Marine.

Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and until services Monday at -Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland. Clarence Splain Clarence Splain, 71, died suddenly at his home near Roberts Lake in rural Carlyle, Monday afternoon, Oct. 10, 1983. He was born in Florence to Frank and Laura Belle Ralaford Splain.

then married Lucille Thornton in St. Louis in 19.39. She survives. Other survivors include sons Frank and Joseph. both of Carlyle; sisters Helen Marshall and Bea Briggs, both of Aurora, Dorothy Gresham of Los Angeles and Frances of Bloomington; and two grandchildren.

He lived in Carlyle the past 12 years after moving from 0'FalIon. Splain was a pipefitter and member of the Pipefitters Local 562 in St. Louis. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at ZierenFuneral Home, Carlyle, and burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery at French Village.

Visitation was held after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Martha Tipsword Martha B. Tipsword, 89, a lifelong resident of the Old Ripley area, died at 5:06 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.

11. 1983, at Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was born Nov. 21, 1893, near Old Ripley to James Alfred and Matilda Willmann Clanton, then married Harley Tipsword Mar. 21.

1912. He died July 25. 1971. Survivors include children Julius of rural Highland, Harley of Sorento, Thomas of the Old Ripley area, Lucinda Landolt of Breese, Lillian Kaulk of rural Greenville, Mayme Traub of the Old Ripley area, Bergice Towell of rural Sorento. Charlene Frueh of rural Greenville and Shirley Tipsword, at home; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Donnell- -Wiegand Funeral Home, Greenville, and burial will in Brown Cemetery, near Old Ripley. Dallas Newby will officiate the ceremony. Visitation will held after 2 p.m.

8, 1983, at her residence. She was born Sept. 5, 1897 in St. Rose to George and Theresa Wesselmann Fehlker, then married John H. June 3, 1919 in St.

Rose Church. He died Apr. 6, 1966. She attended St. Dominic Grade School, Breese, and lived in Clinton County most of her life.

Survivors include sons Aloysius, George and John all of Highland; daughters Bernice Richter of Aviston, Rosemary Meyer, Dolores Talleur and Bernadette Sparlin, all of Highland; brother Theo. Toeben of Carlyle; sister Caroline Eilermann of New Baden; 44 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Daughter Theresa Carroll, two brothers and one sister preceded her in Mrs. Wellen was a member of St. Paul Church, Highland, Legion of Mary, St.

Ann Altar Sodality, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Highland and Catholic Knights and Ladies of Illinois. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, from St. Paul Church, with Father Martin Mangan officiating, and burial was in St.

Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A parish wake service was held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, and the Legion of Mary recited the Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Monday at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland. Visitation was held Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Mater Dei Knights win Cross Country Inv. titles Mater Del Cress Country Team Wins Highland Invitational The Mater Dei Knights, led by Jim Detmer's strong second place finish, captured the team championship of the predominately large school Highland Cross Country Invitational.

Detmer ran the 3.0 mile hilly course in a time of which was 15 seconds behind one of the state's best runners, Tim Ryan of O'Fallon. The Knights score of 54 was a tie with 'Fallon, but the tie breaker is determined by the top finishing sixth place runner. Mater Dei's Steve Ruppel was 27th and Fallon's sixth man was 42nd, thus, the Knights emerged as the champions. Other scorers for Mater Dei were: Rich Eilermann, who came in seventh in the race with a time of Jeff Albers finished 12th with a time of 17:13, and Delbert Higgins finished 15th with a time of 17:28. Both Albers and Higgins are freshmen.

Brian Luebbers was the fifth scorer with a time of 17:41. He finished 18th overall. The top five team scores were as follows: MD-54, 0'Fal-: lon-54, Mascoutah-107, and Highland-150. Knights Capture Red Bad Cross Country Invitational The Mater Dei Cross Country squad journeyed to Red Bud last Friday and came back with the first place trophy in the First Annual Red Bud Invitational. Jim Detmer again led the way as he won the 2.8 mile race with an excellent time of 14:56.

Jim's effort was only six seconds off the course record. Rich Eilermann also turned in another fine performance for the running Knights as he finished second with a time of 15:02. Detmer and Eilermann have shown much improvement from last year and have well established themselves as two of the top class A runners in the MetroEast area. Jeff Albers turned in probably his finest effort this year as he crossed the finish line with time of 15:23 which was good for fifth place finish. Other scorers for Mater Dei were Brian Luebbers-12th with a time of 15:47, and Delbert Higgins finished 15th with a time of 15:55.
