EDWARD C. PETERSON City Manager It J17 Drought Threatens State's Feed Crop OLAREMONT, June 17 (AF-Present drought conditions in this area of the Connecticut river val- ey may cause serious shortages of winter feed for cattle. Stanley W. Sullivan county farm agent, said today unless there "a great deal of rain between now and Oct. 20 there will be insuf- "icient grass and clover cut to carry dairy farmers through winter feeding." Farmers would begin to feel the pinch, in February or March, Colby predicted, unless substantial rain Is 'orthcoming.

The agent added that a shortage of milk is perhaps imminent because of poor grazing conditions for cattle. Corn crops, Colby declared, are Behind schedule, but not as badly as grass and clover because early plantings were possible this spring. Tho Morale), Portsmouth, N. H. Friday Evening, June 17, 1949 Page Eleven Laurel Blooms Sparse in State PETERBOROUGH, June 17 (AP) Dame Nature apparently is not looking kindly upon the Monadnock region in one respect this season. It appears usual luxurious mountain laurel blooms are not going to come up to par this season. The secretary of the region reports he has made a tour of the entire area and while the shrubs looked active and healthy, it appears blossoms will be sparse.

For that reason the annual mountain laurel tours will not be posted this year as it was felt many visitors would be disappointed. Before many more days some blooms are due to be In evidence and motorists are reminded thickest concentrations of laurel growth is to be found on the "back roads" between Mason and Greenville. Residents of the Monadnock area sound one optimistic note. Dame Nature has fooled them on past occasions and "may relent and put on a full display of blossoms after all."
