Fred Sargent Buys Confectionery Store. Fred Sargent of Muskogee, has purchased the Rogillio confectionery store in the Sorbe building from Mrs. R. J. Mullins.

Mr. Sargent is remodeling the building on the inside, putting in a new soda fountain and other- Junior-Senior Banquet. The annual junior-senior banquet was given in the Home Economics rooms of the high school building Wednesday evening. There were sixty-five guests present to partake of the pleasures, and' all report one of the season's most pleasant oeca-- sions. The following program was observed: J.

Tishie Nash, The Eufaula Mercantile Company Under New Management. The Eufaula Mercantile Com pany has been taken over by Varney's. This firm is operating a chain of department stores in Oklahoma. Mr. West, who is one of the firm, will be in charge.

Their buyer has left for the east where they maintain a buying office, to buy -a complete line of ladies ready-to-wear, dry goods, shoes'and men's clothing for the store here, which will bo arriving in the next ten days. The store is now being remodeled inside to take care of their additional stock. Big Rain Here Sunday Makes Mcintosh County Crops Look Very Promising A slow, ground-soaking rain fell over Eufaula and Mcintosh county here Sunday night that gave the farmers of this tion of the state a splendid season. Outside of the oat crop, which lias been damaged some by chinch bugs, the prospects for a- bumper crop for this time of the year were never brighter. Alfalfa received the first cutting last "week and is turning out exceedingly well.

Corn has been plowed over; some of it as many as two times; Cotton is up to a good stand and is being plowed this week. Most of the fajrmera of this section expect to begin chopping, the first of next week. All other crops in this county, including meadows, are doing splendidly. MARRIAGE LICENSE D. M.

'Herron, 48, Webbers Falls; Alma Herron, 38, Webber Falls. Jim L. Voil, 35, garage owner at was instantly killed o'clock Saturday afternoon when his automobile turned, over on a sharp curve on the Jefferson-highway near Voil was speeding from Eufaula to Checotah to spend the night before returning to Cromwell Sunday. Witnesses estimated his car to be making 45 miles an hour as it rounded the first curve of the S- curve in the highway. One wheel slipped off the road, and the driver's efforts to steer back into the road caused the car to turn turtle four times.

Machine Catches Fire Voil's neck was broken, and when witnesses rushed to the car, which had, caught he. was dead. The-car burned for an hour. The body was taken to Checotah, and there was identified as that of Voil, well-known former Stidham man. Voil leaves a wife and four children, residing in Cromwell.

When Voil's partner's wife phoned the to Mrs. Voil, she was almost prostrated, but said she would go to Checotah at once. The body was sent to Stidham, for burial Sunday morning. Mr. Voil has some children buried there, and his wife said he told hex to bury him there.

Voil has been in the garage business for several years, and for some time worked, in Muskogee as a mechanic, it is said.
