County Engineer George the Soil Conservation Service contemplates starting the Conn channel cleaning next spring. The work could not be finished before winter rains if it is started now because the bridge on Oakville Crossroad could not be replaced in time. Supervisor Jack L.

Ferguson expressed displeasure at ing the Conn work past this season because of possible flooding of area land. Conn Creek improvements are part of the SCS flood control project for the Napa River and its tributaries. Another, more major phase, is a dam on Redwood Creek, and the board also spent some time discussing this aspect. Reinhart reported that Coordinator Robert LaRue is attempting to secure rights of entry from 17 property owners so soil tests can be made for the road which will skirt the reservoir. The soil tests must be completed this fall so the road can be designed next winter.

Construction will begin next spring. The board agreed that LaRue should make the obtaining of these rights of entry his number-one task right now. If they aren't obtained, and if the soil work is not done before rains start, the construction of the road might be delayed. Delaying the road would delay construction of the dam itself. Flood control (Dick) Reinhart reported that Girls' Group Sings For Napa Lions The Napa Lions Club Tuesday staged one of its outstanding musical programs of the year with a rousing rendition of feminine barbershop by the 30-voice chorus of the Sweet Adelines, local women's barbershop musical group.

Led by Jean O'Neill, the choral organization sang a series of numbers, including two which it sang at the national barbershop competition earlier this year in Salt Lake City. The group also demonstrated "part" singing, to show how the choral effect is achieved through harmonizing. Roy Knox was program chairman for the evening. Another feature of the dinner session in the Plaza Hotel was a talk by George A. Hart, Long Beach attorney, and a member of the Lions Club in that city for 40 years.

Hart, a guest of Louis Ezettie, discussed unusual incidents and cases connected with his law practice. It was announced that the Lions Family picnic will be held at Vichy Springs Sept. 14. Committeemen in charge include William Howe, S. G.

O1- son, Ed Sterrett, Harold Langdon and Warren Kubler. The clubmen will attend a Giant's baseball game at Candlestick Park on Sept. 10, traveling by bus from Napa.
