Ten of these ears contained 48-inch diameter water pipe shipped against an order covering almost three miles of similar pipe to be used in Flushing, I.

The one car of 24-inch diameter gas pipe applies against an order for twelve miles of similar pipe to be shipped to the Westchester Lighting company at Mt. Vcraon, N. Y. Fabrication and shipping pipe-for municipal use was a peace time production of the Dunkirk plant until the demands for production of war equipment caused this type of work to be discontinued. Alco is now back in full swing turning out Pipe for municipal projects which were necessarily abandoned because of the importance of giving full attention to war production.

County Court, 1125.61. NORMAN THOMAS OUT OF 1948 CAMPAIGN Schenectady (UP) Norman Thomas, five-times Socialist candidate for president, says he will not run next year. After taking himself out of the presidential race, Thomas predicted that President Truman would be the Democratic choice. He added that Truman's opponent may be Gen. Dwight Eisenhower.

Thomas said Sen. Robert Taft, Ohio, "won't be nominated. 1 He added that Gov. Thomas Dewey "is careful not to say he stands for anything." WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS PLANNED FOR DRIVERS Albany (UP)-- Motor Vehicle Commissioner Clifford Fletcher announced today that starting Nov. 17 applicants for state driver licenses will take a written instead of an oral test covering traffic laws and regulations.

Fletcher said the change was being made to up" this phase of the four-part examination and in accordance with nationally-recommended standards, In addition to the written test, the license examination consists of a driving test, vision test and an English test.
