OPTO 2 In the courts Couple plead guilty to child endangerment A St. Joseph couple pleaded guilty on Friday to child endangerment in Buchanan County Associate Circuit Court. Trina Nading, 24, and Rodney Nading, 27, both of 1715 Borden pleaded guilty to a felony count each of first-degree endangering of a child. The charges stem from a November incident in which Ms. Nading's year-old son was burned while he was unattended in a bathtub.

The Nadings told the judge Friday they'd just moved into a new home and weren't experienced with the water heater. Somehow, the hot water was turned on and the little boy was burned. He was treated at Children's Mercy Hospital for burns to his nose and cheeks. The Nadings attorney, Phillip Burdick, said his clients know what happened was wrong and they've since taken parenting classes. The little boy was placed with his grandparents for 45 days and then returned to his parents.

Associate Circuit Judge Keith Marquart told the couple that although what they did was criminal, he wasn't prepared to call them criminals. Mr. Marquart placed the Nad- ings on probation for two years and ordered them to perform 80 hours of community service. He also ordered Mr. Nading to maintain employment as part of his probation.
