The banks and other bond selling agencies Brocton, Sept. 13--Railroad authorities were investiza'tms today the cause of a head-on ro'Hsiorf ol two Nickel Plate freight trains early Sunday morning ne.ir the round house in the local -i-ilroad yards. An eastbound freight known as the "Fourth 54" ha'd the right of way to enter a sidihjt while 'a westbourid freight known as "First 5J" had been signalled to stop. For some reason, possibly failure of brakes, the westbound which carried, two engines, crashed into the eastbound.

None of the crews of either train was seriously hurt although three men were given first aid by a local physician and returned to their homes later in the morning. It is estimated that approximately $17,000 damage was done to the engine- on the eastbound and that $15,000 damage was done to the two locomotives on the westbound freight. Additional damage was suffered by two empty hopper cars and one gondola on the westbound and the tender on the other train. Damage to the tracks wai minor, about four rails being torn up or dislodged. The wreck occurred at 3:10 a.

m. on Sunday and the right of way was' cleared for restimntion of traffic by 1:30 p. m. In the meantime traffic was routed over the New York Central. 310 Scheduled to Arrive Saturday for Harvest Work Did Not Appear.

Eighty-nine per cent of all land in Nevada is Federally-owned or controlled. Railroads operate more than 2,500 special trains each month for the movement of troops. The local USES office was still waiting today for the 310 soldiers who were scheduled to arrive here on Saturday afternoon or evening to begin work in harvesting and processing food. Quarters have been made ready at the Kendall camp in Rt. 20 near Silver Creek and at Eason hall in Westfield and food was purchased with the expectation of serving meals, probably late Saturday.

The only word from army authorities today was that the men are coming. Restrictions on information regarding troop movements apparently denied local authorities the advantage of knowing when the men would arrive. For the Westfield hall where 160 men were to be quartered it was necessary to provide cots and bedding. Some was from the Chautauq.ua County Tuberculosis and Public Health association, some was provided by a supply company and some was purchased by the Welch Grape Juice company. Everything was readiness for the men Saturday night and it is expected that when they do arrive they will set to work promptly.

Since defeat of this rmy is a pra-requisite of Allied it seems that the result an be attained as well on the oil of Italy as in western France. Whether Hitler wilt be obliged once to strength from the Russian front is problematical; irobably not.

But it the Allies go nto the Balkans, the situation is ikely to change. The British arm- es in the Middle East are capable of opening a third front on a major scale there.
