SPRINGFIELD, (AP)-While a crowd of people in the Springfield Science Museum tried to watch Monday's cloud-obscured eclipse of the sum, a alligator slipped out of his tank, down two flights of stairs and out the front door. Greece to Admit Melina ATHENS (AP) Premier George Papadopoulos will permit the Greek actress Melina Mercouri to enter Greece for the funeral of her mother, government spokesman said Tuesday. Miss Mercouri, an outspoken opponent of the military regime, was deprived of her Greek citizenship by the government after it took power in April 1967. Her mother died in Athens on Monday.

Three months ago, the government allowed the remains of Miss Mercouri's father, who died in. June 1967, to be brought to Greece for burial, but forbade the actress to accompany the body. Miss Mercouri will arrive in Athens today, the government spokesman said. Some Sort of a Spy? GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) Security at Grand Forks Air Force Base has been violated by a horse.

A stallion somehow got into the base Monday. Apparently the intruder hadn't read about the guards on duty, nor the dogs that guard the planes. After considerable chasing through the base housing area, the horse was nabbed. It was placed in security at the base riding stable. While the riding club hunted Tuesday for the stallion's owner, security police were trying to explain to their commander how the animal managed to sneak onto the base undetected.

Aid Sought by Museum for Library The St. Joseph Museum is organizing a volunteer task force to catalog and shelve its specialized library of nearly 3,000 volumes. Persons volunteering for the project will be cataloging the books according to author, title and subject. It will be more than' just busy-work, according to Mrs. Ray Rouse, curator of collections.

The catalogers will have the opportunity to go through the book enough to familiarize themselves with the contents and to give a brief synopsis for cataloging the book by subject. Most of the museum's library deals with the American Indian; zoology including mammals, fish, and birds; botany, geology, museumology, and histories of Missouri; the St. Joseph area and Pony Express. Also among the volumes are biographies of local interest, such as those of Jesse James, Mrs. Rouse said.

Of particular interest are Smithsonian Institute publications of American Ethnology which the museum has from 1887 to the last printed in 1971, though there is a gap of about 34 volumes through the middle section. dit. The museum also has the Smithsonian Annual Reports from 1879 to the present. All must be scanned for subject matter for cataloging to enable others later to use the museum libraryeffectivelyfor research, About ten volunteers will be needed and they will be working with Mrs. Marilyn Taylor, volunteer coordinator.

Convention Concluded From Page 1A for racial balance, with Wallace demanding a platform call for its abolition. Another marathon session loomed over the platform tailored to fit McGovern's liberal viewpoints. Gov. Reubin Askew of Florida sounded in his keynote address a call for unity in a feuding party. He said Democrats have responded to "a coalition of protest," and if they can now unite, they can win.

He said it was impossible to ignore "the forces of division pull at us from every direction tonight." But Askew said "a good and open fight" can become a source of strength if the contestants get together in the end. A Missouri Western College student, here as an alternate to this Democratic National Convention, Bill McIntosh of St. Joseph, said Tuesday he was "elated" over the progress being made by Senator George McGovern of South Dakota. "I think both the decisions on the floor in the first session, on the Chicago delegation and the California delegation, were justice," Mr. McIntosh said. Senator McGovern won both those battles in the early hours Tuesday morning, to seat his California delegates and to keep Mayor Richard J.

Daley and 58 other Chicago. challengers out of the Illinois delegation. The method of delegate selection "has really opened up the party," Mr. McIntosh said. The major task now facting Missouri Democrats, with the nomination of Senator McGovern apparently assurred, "it to get everyone back together," Mr.

McIntosh said. Realistically, Mr. McIntosh said he did not know if Senator McGovern could carry Buchanan County in the November general election against Richard M. Nixon. But he said he believed McGovern would make a strong showing, with particular strength among the younger voters.

Party unity is essential in this case, he said. Neaten Bowman Funeral Home Mr. Charles E. Baker 2101 Seneca, husband of Mrs. Alice M.
