St. Joseph, Gazette, Monday, July 10, 1972 People, Episodes in Today's News lines stopped the pilots with a court injunction because it would cost them too much money. If for some reason the American government does not proceed, we will take some recourse to this action in the Canadian courts. But I feel certain we won't have any trouble having our case heard." Plans Hijack Suit MONTREAL (UPI) The son of the man killed in the first of Pacific Southwest Airline's hijacks last week said Sunday he plans to sue Pacific Southwest because he feels U.S. airlines "are really negligent about hijacking." Robert Carter of Vancouver, B.C., said he plans to file suit in San Francisco Tuesday or Wednesday.

The air- Chess Champs 'Sinful' REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) A newly ordained Latheran minister, preaching his first sermon, assailed chess champions Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky on Sunday. The Rev. Olafur Jens Sigurdsson said in a relitglous broadcast that Fischer, the American challenger for the world championship here, was guilty of the "sin of greed" and Soviet titleholder Spassky the "sin of anger." Fischer was asleep in his quarters; Spassky was fishing for salmon. The two are scheduled to meet Tuesday in the first game of their match for the world chess championship. The clergyman's reference to Fischer's alleged "greed" recalled the American's threat to wreck the 24- game series unless the Icelanders gave him more money.

Spassky's anger was shown in the world champion's threat to walk out unless he got an apology from Fischer 'A Peephole of Hope' VATICAN CITY Pope Paul VI said Sunday the renewal of Paris negotiations this week opens "a peephole of hope" for an end to "the intolerable and bloody" war in Vietnam. The pontiff declared, however, that "the spirit and 1 method which have been the tone of the negotiations for too long must be changed a new, reciprocal and generous purpose of peace." The Pope, speaking to the crowd in St. Peter's Square during his usual Sunday noon benediction, used some of the strongest terms he has ever applied in his denunciations of the war in Southeast Asia. urged that the Paris negotiations be brought to a "quick, realistic and final" agreement which would allow the Vietnamese people to achieve "independence, unity and territorial integrity" A Cool Scrape NEW YORK (AP) The liner Queen Elizabeth 2 arrived Sunday with 1,791 passengers the captain said were unaware they had passed within 10 miles of an iceberg only 700 miles east of New York. Capt.

William Law said there is a field of 400 Icebergs, unusually far south, at 41:45 north latitude and 57.54 west longitude. This is appreximately due east of New York and 300 miles southeast of Halifax. The master of the luxury Cunard Diner said he had taken a course 100 miles to the south of his usual route because of ice warnings, but nevertheless saw one, without using field glasses, 10 miles off the port bow Friday. And 750 Bananas A CERRITOS, Calif. (UPI) Three "troops of Boy Scouts Sunday made and served a 400-foot banana split.

It consisted of: Thirty eight gallons each of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream; 11 gallons each of pineapple, chocolate and strawberry topping; 23 gallons of whipped cream; 23 pounds of almonds; three gallons of maraschino cherries and 750 bananas. CLOSED VACATION ANNA LAURA 514 N. 22nd Open 1 10 9 GEOTHERMAL PLANT LOS ANGELES (UPI) Magma Energy, a developer of geothermal natural steam energy processes, has obtained a contract from San Diego Gas and Electric to build a $3 million prototype plant for a proposed geothermal generating station in California's Imperial Valley. fer ONLY THE DELEGATES ARE MISSING The scene in Florida is set in Miami Beach's Convention Hall for the Democratic National Convention Sunday as security guard Mark Fabian makes sure nobody Continued From Page 1A KCI of the facility only four months away, contractors and workmen are busy at completion work in all areas.

Joe E. Howard, KCI development director, reports that as of June -27 most all construction projects at the complex were on schedule. Mr. Howard said work on the three terminal buildings, apron transition paving, ut utilities, and related jobs from the entrance loop road to: aircraft positions are approximately 97.6 per cent complete. The anitcipated completion date is in September.

Airlines Take Over Most major work already has been completed in the three terminals, and the areas are now in the process of being turned over to individual airlines so that they can finish work on their tenant spaces. The parking lots are paved and in use. Runway and taxisurfaces also have been installed, and are being used by aircraft. A post office, located northwest of the terminals, also is ready to begin full' operation. Adjacent to the postal building are crash-rescue facilities.

Rising high above the airport facilities is a 15-story control tower. The 215-foot high structure, which also houses the weather bureau, is the tallest control tower, in the nation. Along the northwestern edge of KCI, cargo and maintenance buildings for individual airlines also are being constructed. Close to St. Joseph Although the new airport has officially been designated Kansas City International, it is nearly as close to St.

Joseph. Local passengers need only a 30-minute drive on Interstate 29 to reach the airport. Most Kansas City residents have to drive about the same period of time to reach the airport. In addition to its ultra-modern design and passenger convenience, KCI also will provide a great opportunity for the St. Joseph area to share in economic advancement.

Even for the and the adjoining TWA overhaul-maintenance complex provide many and varied job opportunities for St. Joseph area persons. Seek Continued From Page 1A McGovern won in that state's June 6 winner-take-all primary, -only to be stripped from him by the party's Credentials Committee. Humphrey is battling to have the convention with help from a stop-McGovern coalition uphold the Cre dentials Committee's division of the California results among all the primary candidates. This would deprive McGovern of 151 while Humphrey would gain at least 104. The outcome could determine the nomination.

Figure Wednesday With Muskie's help and a claim to the full California delegation, McGovern forces figure they will have broken through to an early presidential nomination Wednesday night. Muskie, the one time frontrunner from Maine, is still publicly neutral on the California dispute but has about 200 "swing" votes that could spell the difference for McGovern. The long parliamentary road tonight was -filled with hazards for both McGovern and the coalition of his foes and the situation in the preconvention power struggle shifted by the hour. At first, McGovern's camp believed that by scheduling the South Carolina delegate challenge first, Humphrey would get the break on a precedent-setting challenge of 0'Brien's ground rules because the majority McGovern would need to defeat it would be out of his reach. Later Ruling But party officials issued a later ruling which greatly restricted the conditions under which Humphrey could appeal an O'Brien ruling from the chair.

And theoretically under 0'Brien's ground rules, McGovern could reclaim the entire 271-vote California gation with 1,433 convention votes rather than the vote majority under another interpretation of the rules. 0'Brien's basic ruling was that on each delegation challenge, a convention majority of eligible voters not including the votes of contested delegates affected in each case would be required. Hearnes Continued From Page 1A 120 of the votes, and he is fighting for all 271 of them as the winner of the California primary. Hubert Humphrey had agreed prior to the election that all California delegate votes should go to the primary winner, but challenges have been filed since the McGovern victory in that state. Governor Hearnes said he would vote to seat the 59 Illinois delegates in the camp of Mayor Richard Daley.

The challenging delegates there are for Senator McGovern. Sen. Stuart. Symington said he wanted to "listen to both sides" before making up his mind on the California delega-tion vote. "It disturbs me a great deal," he said.

"I don't like to see the rules broken after an agreement is made." That might indicate he favors awarding all 271 California seats to McGovern delegates, but he steered clear of making the commitment at this time. Rumors persist here that there may be a challenge of the Missouri delegation, but Governor Hearnes says he has been advised through the credentials committee office that no such challenge has been filed. Some McGovern people were unhappy with the manner in which 12 women were added to the Missouri delegation, but Governor Hearnes said the proper steps were taken. The question of delegate challenges is among the first items of business as the convention opens at 7:30 Monday night. Plans are to continue the session until the challenges are resolved, regardless of the time involved.
