News-Press Obituaries Tuesday, July 15, 1997 I Irene Rice 1908-1997 Irene (Reece) Rice, 88, St Joseph, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at a St Joseph hospital after a short ill most of his life. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School in St Joseph and attended the former St. Joseph Junior College. Mr.

Maxwell was a member of the Wyatt Park Christian Gladys L. Bennett 1924-1997 ATCHISON, Kan. Gladys L. (Hinson) Bennett, 73, Atchison, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at a health-care center in Atchison. Born near Curlew in Atchison County, on July 7, 1924, Mrs.

Bennett was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1175, both of Atchison. In August of 1942, she married Edward J. Bennett.

He died in 1982. Mrs. Bennett also was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nellie L. Hinson; and five sisters, two brothers and a greatgrandchild. Surviving: a son, Douglas' Atchison; a daughter, Shirley K.

Tyler fells City, Neb. gist for Research Seeds in St. Joseph. Born in St. Joseph on June 21, 1949, he lived most of his life in Troy He graduated from the East High School in Kansas City; Highland, Community College and Missouri Western State College in St.

Joseph. Mr. Etherton was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion Post No. 55, both of Troy. On June 20, 1969, he married Judith Stahnke in Kansas City.

She survives of the home. Mr. Etherton was preceded in death by his father, James F. Additional survivors: a son, Brian, Northglenn, his mother, Gwendoline Etherton, Troy, and two brothers, James DeSoto, and Stanley Holton, Kan. Service: 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, First Christian Church, Troy. Burial: Mount Olive Cemetery, Troy. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Troy Pauline E. Freel 1916-1997 Pauline E. (Euler) Freel, 81, St Joseph, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at a St.

Joseph hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Freel was a stock clerk at the former Einbender's women's clothing store in St Joseph for 25 years. Born in Wathena, on March 26, 1916, she lived in Wathena and Troy, before moving to St Joseph 25 years ago. She was a member of the Troy Christian Church.

On May 14, 1939, she married James F. Freel. He died in 1967. Mrs. Freel also was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy her parents, Henry A.

and Georgia L. Euler; and a brother, Grant Euler. Surviving: a daughter, Mary Ann Freel, St. Joseph; a son, H. Roger, St.

Joseph; and two brothers, Donald H. and Paul B. Euler, both of St. Joseph. the service.

He also was a salesman for the Meyer Home Center, and a custodian at the First National Bank and Trust, both in Falls City. He was working part-time as a desk clerk at the Stephenson Hotel In Falls City. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Nov. 26, 1931, he was reared and graduated from high school there. He attended the Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, 111., for two years, where he participated in sports.

During the Korean War, Mr Tyler served in the Army rnilitary police, receiving several medals including the Korean Service Ribbon with two Bronze Campaign Stars. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Falls City where he served on the board. Mr Tyler was a former member of the Kankakee Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the church and Sunday school boards. On Oct 1, 1955, he married Margaret Mowers in Kankakee. They moved to Kankakee in 1954 and to Falls City in 1982.

She survives of the home. Mr. Tyler was preceded in death by his father, Edward; three brothers, William Thomas A. and Franklin and a sister, Flossie M. Tyler.

Additional survivors: two daughters, Pamela Harkendorff, Falls City, and Linda Walton, Lambard, his mother, Marinda Rowland, Chillicothe; four brothers, Herman Wimauma, Glen Chillicothe, Timothy Columbus, Ohio, and George, Logan, Ohio; a half brother, Robert Rowland, Florida; a sister, Marybelle Creasap, Columbus; and six grandchildren. Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First Church of the Nazarene, Falls City. Burial: Steele Cemetery, Falls City, with military rites by members of the Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard and Detachment No. 1, Company D.

J.P. "Jack-Weber, 94, Lockwood, formerly of Trenton, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at a health-care center in Lockwood. Mr. Weber, a retired vehicle mechanic, was born in Elm Springs, on Dec. 10, 1902.

He attended the Springdale, schools. He lived in Harrisburg, St. Louis and Laredo, and Trenton before moving to Golden, City, several years ago. -He was a member of the Hazel Hurst Baptist Church in Livingston County, Mo. On Dec.

31, 1947, he married Jessie E. Trask. She died in 1991. Mr. Weber also was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mary Ellen; a sister, Elsie Weber, four brothers, John, Earl, Bob and Bill; and two grandchildren.

Surviving: a daughter, Mary M. Wentz, Springdale; a stepdaughter, Pat Gaskins, Gillette, a brother, Ira, Renton, three sisters, Gladys Melton and Lucille Haggerstid, both of Trinidad, and Dorothy Nonis, Ren ness. Born in St. Joseph on Aug. 22, 1908, Mrs.

Rice was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. She was a member of King Hill Christian Church. She was preceded in death Mrs. Rice by her husband, George W.

Rice in 1967; a son, James her parents, James W. and Osa B. Reece; a brother, Arthur Reece; and three sisters, Daisy Deaton, Hazel Round-Long and Lola K. Lynch. Surviving: a son, George W.

Burial: Ashland Cemetery, St Joseph. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Jennie I. Sharp 1908-1997 BURLINGTON JUNCTION, Mo. Jennie Irene (Lininger) Sharp, 89, Burlington Junction, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at her home.

Born in Quitman, on March 30, 1908, Mrs. Sharp was a homemaker. In 1924, she married William I. Sharp in Clarinda, Iowa. He died in 1973.

Mrs. Sharp also was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Lininger; seven brothers, Stanley, Lester, Johnnie, Elmer, Lloyd, Wayne and Sam Lininger; and four sisters, Opal Jenkins, Lucille Smith, Grace Slayden and Marion Sharp. Surviving: a son, Alfred, Burlington Junction; a sister, Fern Harris, St. Joseph; two grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild. Service: 2 p.m.

Emma, born in St. Joseph on May 3, 1993, lived in St. Joseph all of her life. She attended the St. Joseph Cathedral Preschool and was a member of St.

Mary's Catholic Emma Simbro Church. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Kenneth Simbro; and maternal great-great-grandparents, Delbert and ThelmaPike. Additional survivors: a brother, Marcus A. of the home; two sisters, Ryan E. and Paige P.

David J. Tyler, 65, Falls City, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at a Lincoln, hospital. Mr. Tyler was a precision tool machinist in Kankakee, 111., after Woodford "Woodie" Cole, 35, Bolckow, 10:30 a.m. today, First Baptist Church, Savannah, Mo.

Robert L. Polley, 94, Bethany, formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at a Bethany health-care center. Mr. Polley, a retired farmer, was born in Ridgeway on Dec. 15, 1902.

He was a member of the Kirkley Chapel United Methodist Church in Ridgeway On Sept. 1, 1923, he married Murle D. Hogan in Bethany. She died in 1992. Mr.

Polley also was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents, Winfield S. and Linne four sisters, Bertha Turner, Ida Buzzard, Sadie Smith and Ella Hogan; three brothers, Joseph, Cleve and Alva; and a grandchild. Surviving: two sons, Dick and Bryce, both of Ridgeway; a daughter, Wanda Cable, Hermitage, eight grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Allta Claudine (Edwards) Redmond, 77, Stan-berry, died Sunday July 13, 1997, at a Stanberry health-care center.

Mrs. Redman, a homemaker, also farmed and was a cook at the Stanberry Senior Citizens Nutrition Site. Born in Parnell, on Dec. 31, 1919, she lived most of her life in Gentry County, Mo. She attended school near Parnell and was a member of the Stanberry First Christian Church.

On Oct. 3, 1943, she married Kay Redmond. He died in 1965. Mrs. Redmond also was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ethel L.

Edwards; a brother, Bud Edwards; and two sisters, Geraldine Edwards and Erma Gladman. Surviving: two sons, Ronald and Robert, both of Stanberry; two sisters, Flossie Hewitt, King City, and Marcella Wiss, Independence, six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild. Burns 1909-1997 -GALLATIN, Mo. Mary Frances (Knight) Burns, 87, Gallatin, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at a health-care center in Gallatin. Born northeast of Gallatin in 1909, Mrs. Burns lived in the Gal-t latin area all of her life. She was a graduate of the Gallatin high school and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Gallatin; Daviess County, Democratic Club, of which she was a past chairperson; and auxiliary to the MFA. On April 28, 1931, she married Russell Burns in Plattsburg, Mo. He died in 1992. Mrs. Burns also was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Julia Knight; and a grandchild.

Surviving: a son, U.S. Senator Conrad Burns, Springfield, a daughter, Judy Norris, Middle- brook, a sister, Maebelle Hill, Cameron, four grandchil- dren; and three great-grandchil- dren. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, United Methodist Church, Gal- latin. Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, pallatin.

Born in Dawn, on March 31, 1926, Mr. Condron lived in Chillicothe until moving to Knoxville, Iowa, in 1948.

Crippen 1925-1997 Albert E. Crippen, 72, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at a St. Joseph hospital. Mr.

Crippen was an ironworker for Union Local No. 10 until retiring. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Born in Trimble, on Jan. 15, 1925, he spent most of his life in St.

Joseph. He was a member of Your Church. In 1981, he married Celia A. Whistler in St. Joseph.

She survives of the home. Mr. Crippen was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alberta; a brother, Marvin; and a sister, Louise Epperson. Additional survivors: a son, Michael, St. Joseph; a stepson, Michael Farrington, Zearing, Iowa; two daughters, Deborah Schwamp and Charlotte Glasgow, both of St.

Claude Raymond Maxwell, 85, Ridgeway, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at the Liberty, hospital from injuries suf fered in a two-vehicle accident on Friday, June 27, three miles west of Ridgeway. Mr.

Maxwell, a farmer all of his adult life, was born in Ridgeway on April 26, 1912. He graduated from the Ridgeway R-V School. He was a member of the Christian Church and Lions Club, both of Ridgeway. He received an honorary farming degree from the Ridgeway chapter of the Future Farmers of America. On July 4, 1935, he married Rachel Comer.

She survives of the home. Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by a son, Raymond; his parents, Carl R. and Carrie; and a sister, Bernice Gillispie. Additional survivors: a son, Roger, Ridgeway; a brother, Roe, Ridgeway; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Pol-ley-Slaughter-Polley Funeral Home, Ridgeway. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Ridgeway. Visitation: after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive from 7 to 8 tonight.

William E. Maxwell 1918-1997 William E. "Bill" Maxwell, 79, St. Joseph, died Saturday July 12, 1997, at a St. Joseph hospital.

Mr. Maxwell was a salesman for the American Electric Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1980. During World War he served in the Navy Born in Pickering, on Feb. 28, 1918, he lived in St.

Joseph for ALBERT E. CRIPPEN Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the Rupp Chapel. Rev, Leafhie Gray officiating. The interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
