-TiiK Protestant Methodist Church, All About an Orercoat. OF course we can't say how other citie treated tbe young Christians when convened with them, but we do know that Portsmouth was kind to the dele gfttea of the Y. A. Convention thnt recently held its sessions here. On chap in the Convention had a little ex periouce hero which, if the sequel hoc not been so favorable, would, no doubt havo made him vote no to coming to Portsmouth again.

Wo refer to Mr. Chapin, of Cincinnati, who, while taking supper at the residence of Mr. J. H. Roads, ou Second street, on Saturday evening, during the stay of the Conven lion, bad his overcoat borrowed by some sinner anxious for the tracts it may possibly have contained.

But the best joke on the coat or Mr. Chapin is that the fellow forgot to bring the coat back in time for Mr. Chnpin to wear it home. Mr. wasn't in a jesting mood, so, before his departure, he informed Marshal Williams about his troubles and his coat, nnd shaking the Portsmouth particles of Just from his sandals, he returned to Cincinnati.

Last Monday Captain Williams met that cont coming down town with a man oa the inside of it, and he yanked it off exceeding swiftly. Communicating with Mr, Chapin, that gentleman wrote a very interesting description of his property, and, like good, thoughtful Pork- opolitan, he sent samples of coat and with dimensions of the properly. The coat was identified, although tho drab collar had been taken off' by a tailor and replaced by a black one. The buttons had also been changed. The old collar wad found nt the tailor's.

The mtin who wore the coat says he got it for a debt the man owed i It is evident the man who owed the debt only borrowed the cont for him, as he was never accused of stealing anything before, except Mrs, Kinney's gold watch. The coat BREVITIES. THE distillery at Circleville baa suspended. THE Ironton. Water Works are heated by steam.
