Mount St. Helena, considered an extinct volcano will scon fling a plume of smoke high above its summit, fire and steam belching forth with a glow that will attract the attention cf the countryside for miles around. Then amidst rumblings and heavy explosions reverberating thunderously among neighboring peaks, what was a peaceful mountain will be transformed into a seething furnace, with an eruption 500 feet high and several hundred feet along the mountain top. Tins extraordinary prophecy can safely be made with full confidence that its prediction will be fulfilled to the letter for final arrangements have just been completed by the Calistoga Fair Association with the Pacific States Fireworks Company to stage the spectacular display as a part of the Silverado Trail Festival. Mount St.

Helena, a familiar landmark to all Napans is soon to be the scene of the strangest eruption ever witnessed in this vicinity. A manmade eruption on the day in the year when pyrotechnics of various kinds are a favorite form of celebrating, July 4th. The Pacific States Fireworks Company, a California owned and operated plant had a similar order at the dedication of the Lassen Volcanic Park in 1931 and thrilled thousands of spectators with a realistic reproduction of the Mt. Lassen eruption of 1915. This startling demonstration was the subject of an article in the Popular Science monthly magazine, issue of November, 1931, entitled "Electrical Key-Fires Old Volcano" and the cover of this periodical depicted the scene, in color, with the engineer at the control board which released tons of pyrotechnic material from the crater.

The Pacific States Fireworks Company are inventors and manufacturers of fireworks that are original and daring. Their Hollywood branch is responsible for many of the scenes, smoke screens and other types of pyrotechnics used the movie industry. Weeks of patient preparation by factory trained experts and special designs for each ei-ent and locality are necessary for the successful production of some of the brilliant and novel displays which have made this company famous. The eruption of Mt. St.

Helena cannot fail to attract visitors from all parts of the country. It should prove a valuable adjunct to the publicity and advertising already given Napa county and the Silverado Trail Festival and, once here, the beautiful valley that nestles at the foot of the aged peak that had furnished them with such spectacu-lai entertainment, will be indelibly imprinted in their memories as one of nature's beauty spots. (INS) Mussolini, Badoglio and Ciano heroes of Italys conquest of Ethiopia have three new rivals for popularity in Californias enthusiastic Italian colony of some 250,000 men, women and children. North Beach, picturesque section of San Francisco and "capital" of Italo-Califomia, today buzzed with praise for three boys of the colony. The new heroes are noo warrors of the East African campaign they are the members of the New York Yankees new murderers' row Joe DiMaggio, Tony Lazzerl and Frank Crosetti, all "North Beach boys. Pocketbooks in North Beach are pinched these days because the local Italians have contributed heavily to Mussolinis war chest, but everybody in the district including merchants, wine-makers, shoe-shiners and housewives is willing to bet the American equivalent of a lira or two that the three boys will out-hit other members of the Yankees. Perhaps the three proudest men in the colony are a retired crab fisherman, a molder and a former manager of a scanvenger route.

Tne ex-fisherman is Joe DiMag-glo. the molder is Agostini Lazzeri, and the ex-garbage route boss is Doinmic Crosetti, they are the fathers of the three Yankee stars. Frequently the fathers Lazzeri and Crosetti, who are from Genoa, and DiMaggio, Sr who is from Sicilia meet, sit down and drink some of their home-made wine, and discuss the sensational diamond exploits of their sons. Like other Italo-Callfomians, A1 Santoro, the Latin sports editor of Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco, is flushed with pride over the recent slugging exhibitions of DiMag Co. Determination real Italian determination is behind their successes," Signori Santoro explains.

Without much urging, Santoro will tell you that Italian athletes excell in many branches of sport. "Soccer, track, rowing, bicycle riding are sports that find Italians doing splendidly," Santoro said. "Italians are magnificent athletes." Then, there is a drip in Santoros voice Italians dont do so well in heavyweight boxing," he lamented. Look at Primo Camera, phooey! But then boxing is relatively a new sport in Italy. While Italians dont shine today in the heavyweight ranks, there are many good fighters in the lighter divisions.

Thru. 50 Tfears 1886 to T936 It reveals the tremendous contribution made by the employes to the efficiency and economy of the biggest business in the world.

Knowledge of this fact, for the first time put into cold figures, is the explanation of the consideration shown them by Congress. But the cold figures also reveal that only a small portion of the results of this devotion to service have been returned to the employes improved conditions. For example, in the procession of this pyramiding efficiency, they have absorbed the eight hour day, the 44 hour week and now the five day week. This means that, should the man-hour output of 1908 have continued, it would now be necessary to employ nearly twice as many workers as is now the case. In other words, 521.836 would be needed instead of 270,012 as in 1930. This amazing showing was not the result of mechanization as in the case with other industries afflicted with technological unemployment. On the contrary, according to the evidence collected the use of motor vehicles and notably airplanes for the transpoi tation of mail has greatly acoeleiated the rate of postal output. But the increased mechanization of the Postal Service in many instances furrher mcieased the demand for this service placing, as a result, a greatly added burden upon every employe in the service.

It is further said that the m-ciease in total output during the 22 years under consideration was truly staggering. While in 1908 the entire postal service handled 14,567,706,216 units by 1930 the volume of output rose to 38 632,716,968 units. This meant an increase in the total output oi 165 2 per cent. These facts aie of peculiarly impartial origin. They were placed in the Congressional Record by Representative D.

C. Dobbins of Illinois, at the request of Chairman James M. Mead of the House Post Office and Po-t Roars Committee. In this connection, Ml. Dobbins made the following statement: "This summary of statistical data has been piepaied in response to a lequeit made by the Honorable James M.

Mead, Chairman of the Office and Post Roads Committee cf the House of Representatives to Gilbert E. Hyatt, Legislative Repiesentative of the National Federation of Post Office Clerks, "The entire summary and the accompanying chaits aie based exclusively on Government date derived from a special survey made by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and published by the United States Department of Labor as Bulletin 574 in 1932. The estimates and graph presentation based on these Government statistics have been prepared by the research staff of the American Federation of Labor, All estimates and conclusions have been caietully examined and verified by Mr. Gilbert E. Hyatt, Legislative Representative of the National Fed-eiation of Post Office Clerks.

In support of these statements, Mr. Dobbins exhibited to the House cf Representatives four graphs showing the lines of increased postal business, of increase in output and the relative inciease in the number of postal employes. "Tills splendid showing was made during a period In which the hours 1 cf postal employes were slowly following the trend toward shorter hours of labor In private industry, said Gilbert E.
