LANCASTER, NEW ERA THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 1980 3 Industrial Engineer Was 72 OBITUARIES Mrs. J. Wesley Is Dead at 93 New Era Weather James W. Grove Dies, Was Armstrong Executive Mabel Jones Wesley, who was instrumental in starting the first school for the deaf in Lancaster, died Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Duke Convalescent Residence after a ten-month illness.

Mrs. Wesley was 93 and lived at 904 Landis Ave. She was the wife of Joseph Wakeman Wesley, who died in James W. Grove, an Armstrong retiree who with his own and matching funds from Armstrong Cork Co. had established a scholarship fund at Penn State University, died unexpectedly Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.

at Lancaster General Hospital. He had been under the care of a physician. Grove, 72, lived in Apartment 1, 522 Misty Drive. He was director of industrial engi ishs. retired in 1964 after 30 years with the Herr Book Store.

He had been associated with the real estate office of A.J. Slosser Co. since his retirement from Armstrong in 1971. Rain is forecast for Friday for all of New England and as far south as Maryland, according to the National Weather Service. American Institute of Industrial Engineers.

For nine years he served, as a consultant on the Industrial arid Professional Advisory Council to the college of engineering at Penn State. During his final three-year term on the council, he was general chairman of its industrial engineering section In 1965, on behalf of his company and the AIIE, Grove introduced two annual student awards to contribute to the professional development of future industrial engineers. In 1970, with his own funds and a matching gift from Armstrong, he set up the James W. Grove Industrial Engineering Scholarship Fund at Penn State. For 30 years he served as a' director of the Armstrong Building and Loan Association, now known as Heritage Loan and also served as president of the association.

Active in community affairs, he served for 15 years on the planning committee of Lancaster Township and was a member of the executive council of the local council of Boy Scouts of America. A graduate of Penn State University, Gftve was a member of First Presbyterian Church; a member and past director of Lancaster Kiwanis Club; a member of Andrew H. Hershey Lodge 764, Free and Accepted Masons; Lancaster Lodge of Perfection; Harrisburg Consistory, 32nd degree; and Zembo Temple and Hamilton Club. Born in Altoona, he was a son of the late William W. and Charlotta Pensyl Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Emily May Jackson Grove; a daughter, Betty, wife of Dr. Jack B. Pontz, Lancaster; a son, James Edward Grove, Van Nuys, and two grandchildren. James W. Grove He had head- Extended Forecasts Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey: Clearing Saturday.

Palmer, 61, of 637 N. President died unexpectedly at his home at 3:30 a.m. today. He had been under the care of a physician. He lived in Lancaster for the past 10 years and had been employed for 18 years by Cameron Space Division of Fairchild Industries, Paramus, N.J., until 1968.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army from 1942 until 1947 as a member of the First Armored Division of the Fifth Army. He served in Iran, North Africa, Sicily, and Anzio Beachhead, Italy, where his unit received a Presidential unit citation. He later served in the Philippines. Palmer was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Hohokus, N.J. He was a graduate of Bergen Junior College, Hackensack, N.J.

Born in Owasco, Cayuga County, New York, he was a son of Florence R. Miller Palmer and the late John A. Palmer. In addition to his mother, at home, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, John A. Palmer Martins- ville, N.J.; and George A.

Palmer, Groton, Catherine wife of James W. Ballentine, Glen Rock, N.J., and Helen M. Robertson, Fairfax, Va. H. Elvin Herr Succumbs at 82 H.

Elvin Herr, 82, of Moravian Manor, Lititz, formerly of Leola, died today at 4:40 a.m. at Lancaster General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late El-mira Miller Herr, who died in 1969. He was a retired self-emploved carpenter and a member of Salem United Church of Christ-Hellers. Born in Manheim Township, he was a son of the late Elam and Minnie Esbenshade Herr.

He is survived by one son, Paul M. Herr, Gap, and three grandchildren. Jere Lee Hurst, 1 8, Dies after Accident The grandson of two local couples died Wednesday as the result of injuries suffered in an accident early Saturday morning. Jere Lee Hurst, 18, Newmanstown R2, died Wednesday afternoon at Her-shey Medical Center. He attended Hinkletown Mennon-ite Church.

He was self-employed as a farmer. Born in Newmanstown, he was the son of Elvin and Helen Hursh Hurst, at home. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Dale, Rehrersburg, and Elvin Jr. at home; and one sister, Dolores, Hershey. Also surviving are maternal grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. Curvin Hursh, Lititz R4, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Hurst, Stevens Rl. (Other Obituaries on Page 5) ed the industrial engineering department at Armstrong from 1946 until his retirement.

During his career a number of specialized industrial engineering practices had been inaugurated such as improvements in job evaluation procedures, development of a consistent incentives program, establishment of formalized cost reduction programs and development of an industrial engineering training program. He had been involved in extensive research work with the Society for Advancement of Management and the number of years Mabel Wesley and was one of the founders of a school for the deaf that was located in the old Lancaster School Administration Building at the corner of N. Prince and Chestnut streets. A lifelong Republican, she was active with the Ninth Ward election board. Born in Rohrerstown, she was a daughter of the late William and Martha Gibble Jones.

Surviving are a daughter, Miriam, wife of Stanley M. Graham, with whom she resided for 24 years, and a number of nieces and nephews. Roy Haldeman, 52, Truck Driver, Dies Roy F. Haldeman a truck driver for Interstate Motor Freight. Lancaster, died Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.

at Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of six weeks. Haldeman, who was 52 and lived at 2560 Valley Road, East Petersburg, was the husband of Audrey M. Book Haldeman. He was a resident of East Petersburg for 16 years. Haldeman was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Teamsters Union Local 771.

Born in Steelville, he was a son of the late Levi and Mabel Boose Haldeman. Surviving in addition to hs wife are three sons, Roy F. Haldeman New Providence; Michael Lititz R4; and Terry East Petersburg; three granddaughters; and these sisters and brothers: Ada Waltman, Paradise Rl; Martin Haldeman, Lin-wood; Mabel wife of Grant Harten-stine, Lancaster; Dora, wife of Daniel Kachel, Georgetown, and Levi Haldeman, Columbia. The published statement was a paraphrase of a statement made, in open court by a county probation officer.

The teller, who was not identified by name in the New Era sentencing account, has declared through an attorney, Samuel M. Mecum, that she has had no psychological counseling as a result of the robbery experience. W. Ryland Brown, 75, of 222 S. Summit Quarryville, died Wednesday at 11 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.

He had been in the landscaping business for the past 35 years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Quarryville, and was active in the men's brotherhood class which he helped organize a number of years ago. He was a member of Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, Quarryville, since 1935, and had served on the board of governors for the past 22 years. He was also a member of Washington Lodge 156 Free and Accepted Masons, Quarryville.

He was born in Refton, a son of the late John W. and Ida Keen Brown. In addition to his wife, Sara Gilbert Brown, he is survived by two sisters, Olive K. Moore, and Ruth, wife of Elwood Aukamp, both of Lancaster. MOON Rises 9:27 P.M.
