They have the iron and the lime, but fuel is scarce, and coal is not to be had at all. The cheap conveyance of coal to that part of the State would give an impetus to the manufacture of iron, the like of which has never been dreamed of in North Carolina. The distance from Deep River to Charlotte is about 80 miles.

From Charlotte to Rutherfordton a road will certainly be built. It will be recollected that a railroad from Ashe-ville to this place, which would pass near to Charlotte, was ably advocated in thi3 paper some eighteen months ago, by one of the first men in the Western part of the State; and that it also formed a prominent feature in that comprehensive scheme so forcibly presented in the remarkable pamphlet of Dr. Hawks.
