Lancaster, Pa. Phone 393-0789 Distributed by Roub Supply Company raufiifmiwiivtfivnRtwHniHiuimitiniiiiamw9NMWNMnnwvVTWHaTWiwi statement that gonorrhea caused (among other things) arthritis. Ive read a great deal about arthritis and have never seen such a statement In fact, the doctors with whom I have dis-cussed, this ailment say cure for arthritis can be found because the cause is not known. I think you owe it to every person who has arthritis to retract that damaging statement or identify your authority. Get with it, Ann, or retire.

MEMPHIS DEAR MEMPHIS: I did indeed make the statement that gonorrhea can cause, among other things, arthritis. My authorities are Dr. John Naja-rian. Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, University of Minnesota, and Dr. Robert Stolar, Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown School of Medicine and Professor at Howard Medical School in Washington, D.C.

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. The vast majority of arthritics have either rheumatoid or osteoarthritis. In some cases the cause for the inflammation is not known. In gonorrheal arthritis, however, the cause IS known because the bacteria has been isolated and identified. Your apologies are accepted.

DEAR ANN: After 12 years of what I thought was a good marriage, my husband began to lose interest in me. I blamed Mikes long hours, financial pressures, everything under the sun. Finally I asked him if there was another woman. He said, No. Mikes boss has always treated him like a son and me like a daughter.

I decided to confide in him. I dont know what possessed me but on a wild hunch I asked if the other woman could be Mikes problem. He said, Yes its very possible. Then he began to speak freely, assuming I knew all about it. The other woman, it turns out, is the bosss wife.

I nearly passed out. Her reputation is not good. This isnt the first time shes been involved with a man at the plant. (She works there.) Its the first time my husband has been involved with another woman, however, and I don't know what to do. The boss does not want to fire Mike.

Hes sure the affair will end before long and advised me to keep quiet and keep the light in the window. What do you say? UNHAPPY DEAR UNHAPPY: Mike's boss gave you good advice. In addition to the light in the window, dearie, keep a fire in the furnace. DEAR ANN: Do you think you can tear yourself away from the sex perverts and other assorted kooks long enough to answer a sensible question?
