Page 4B The Hanford SentinelThursday, November 21, 1996 Public Notice Public Notice Public Notice Hope ribs presidents in last special Calvin Coolidge," he readily answered, with a laugh. We werent necessarily preparing the show as the last of the specials," explained Linda Hope, Bobs daughter and executive producer, But it turned out to be quite a nice way to end the NBC specials. Its elegant and presidential, as opposed to the more typical Bob Hope special. We did the big 90th birthday show, which was sort of a recap of all of his life. So we didnt need to do one that would be a summing up.

Linda told of one of her fathers favorite stories: Dad was supposed to do a press corps dinner for FDR. He arrived a little late and he was on almost instantly, so he didnt have too much time to think about it. He said that people watched almost like a tennis match, back and forth from Dad telling the joke to FDR and to see how he received it. Dad said he could see the cigarette in the holder bobbing up and down and FDR laughing heartily. So he figured he was home free.

About the end of the NBC con tract Dads feeling was that he didnt want to have the responsibility of contractual obligations with anybody at this point. He wanted to have time to concentrate on many of the things that he has never had time to concentrate on. Among the projects a Museum of Comedy, which might be located in Florida, and repackaging the best of the specials for release on cable TV. Linda Hope was asked what many people would like to know: How is her fathers health? Contrary to all of the tabloids I wish they would come up with something more clever than Brave Last Days hes in amazingly good health, she said. BOB THOMAS Associated Press Writer LOS ANGELES One of the longest roads in show business comes to an apparent end this weekend when Bob Hope presents his last television special under a 60-year contract with NBC.

On Saturday night, the network presents Bob Hopes Laughing with the Presidents, a one-hour show covering the comedians entertaining of U.S. presidents from Franklin Roosevelt to Bill Clinton. Appearing on the program will be Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, George and Barbara Bush, Gerald and Betty Ford, and David and Julie Nixon Eisenhower. The last of Hopes 285 NBC specials wont be like the others. The comedian feels the weight of his 93 years, and his razor-sharp timing isnt what it used to be.

There will be no monologue, and Tony Danza will share hosting duties. Hope started his own radio show with NBC in 1938 and starred in 1,145 broadcasts, many of them before servicemen and women in the United States and overseas. On Easter Day 1950, he performed his first TV show on NBC, and his unprecedented contract continued until this year. Starting in the 1930s, Bob Hope entertained every American president at Gridiron dinners and other events. Though a Republican, he maintained friendly relations with all of them, ribbing them with gentle humor.

Reached at his Palm Springs home after an evening massage, Hope hinted that Saturday nights special for NBC may not be his last: Theyve been very good to me over the years. This is the last show under the contract, but who knows? In 1973, Bob Hope gives then putting tips in the Oval Office. What is he going to do now that hes I dont have any trouble filling AP Photo President Richard Nixon some in my time, he said, Which president was the toughest audience? Lila Shanley, pioneering movie stuntwoman, dies at 86 and Health Center. Shanley worked in motion pictures for almost six decades under her professional name, Lila Finn, and her more than 100 films included classics. She was also the stunt double for Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind and Paulette Goddard in Unconqucred." She also doubled for SANTA MONICA (AP) Pioneering Hollywood stuntwoman Lila Shanley, who doubled for Donna Reed in Its a Wonderful Life and Dorothy Lamour in The Hurricane, died two weeks shy of her 87th birthday.

Bom Nov. 28, 1909 in Los Angeles, Shanley died Friday of heart failure at St. Johns Hospital Ida Lupino, Sandra Dee and Veronica Lake. Perhaps her most famous appearance came in the holiday classic Its a Wonderful Life when, doubling for Reed, Shanley danced with Jimmy Stewarts double at a sock hop and they fell into a swimming pool when a retractable floor was rolled back. 1.
