Record Entry For Bonspiel will start this weekend at the day, March 1. Play will be the weekend until the finals held during the hours 7.30 Last year's highly successful bonspiel set the stage for a heavy entry of 68 rinks of which 25 will be coming from points as widely separated as Dawson Creek and Prince Rupert.

This entry makes Kitimat's bonspiel the largest in northern B.C. with the single exception of the annual bonspiel at Prince George. Social highlights of the bonspiel will be a banquet which will be held at the Canadian Legion hall between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. Saturday, swimming at Lakelse and conducted plant tours for participating curlers and their families.

Extra tickets for the banquet will be available at the Curling Club canteen for club members and their guests who may wish to attend although admission to the banquet will be restricted to adults. During the course of the bonspiel the Kitimat community will have the opportunity of seeing tight competitive curling at its best and members of community are invited to visit the clubhouse anytime during the "spiel" should they wish to enjoy the game as spectators. The clubhouse will be closed to minors from 11.30 p.m. Friday evening to 11.30 a.m. Saturday morning and again from 12 midnight Sunday to 11.30 a.m.

Monday morning. It is hoped that all members of the community will assist in welcoming and making pleasant the stay of the many visiting curlers who will be coming to Kitimat for this bonspiel, said the club president. On Saturday evening, March 16, there will be a marathon mixed curling bonspiel for members of the Kitimat Curling Club and their guests. There will be entertainment, good food, and good curling for all and members are advised that to enter this event they should enter their names at the Curling Club on lists which will be posted within the next few days. Besides the curling, there will be organized bridge and other entertainment which will be of considerable interest to curlers and non-curlers alike.

The Saturday Morning Curlers will hold a short bonspiel on their own. All Saturday Morning Curlers are requested to make note of this event and to plan on their participation. MOCCASIN DANCE The final event of the season will be a moccasin dance to be held on the Curling Club ice Saturday, March 30. This will be a major social event open to members, their guests and adult members of the community. The moccasin dance of course will be a Chieftains Full Of Confidence In their last game of the season in the Kitimat Basketball Association league the MEHS Chieftains came through with an impressive 66-38 victory to maintain their third place standing in the league.

The Chieftains controlled the game from the first whistle, continually out-rebounding, passing and shooting the rather sloppy Terrace squad. They ran up, a 20 point lead by half time and from then on coasted easily to their 66-38 triumph. For the team, at full strength for one of the few times this season, it was their second victory of the day. Previously they had defeated the Hazelton Spartans very handily as they racked up 80 points to Hazelton's 20. In both games the Chieftains were sparked by their 6'2" centre Steve Barnwell who racked up a total of 46 points in two games.

Gary Nesbit, Gerry Yesdreski and Bill Forward added their share too as they netted 20, 19, and 19 points respectively in the doubleheader. In the rebound department the Chieftains pulled in an amazing 75 per cent against Hazelton and 60 per cent against Skeena High for their best average of the season. Thus, after these two overwhelming victories, the chances of the Chieftains coming through highly in both the league playoffs and the High School Basketball Tournament seem reasonably secure, as their only defeats this season have been to the highly rated Prince Rupert Rainmakers and to two league teams who edged out slim one point victories. With the team now at full strength there is little doubt they will be a potent threat in both events. The Canadian Red Cross Enquiry Bureau handled requests from 38 countries last year, and replied to over 7,000 enquiries.

Kin Korner by "SPUDS" Kin John Kentrop went to Holland a few weeks ago and came back with a charming wife. Congratulations from all Kinsmen. We have a surprise for you at a party to be held later. The Kinsmen would like to give a special thanks to the Kitimat Bowling Alley and bowling teams for their collections in the Mothers March. The total collections for 'Mothers March' have now reached $1,436.

Said Don Morris, president of the Kitimat Curling Club: "In the rush of events this year, it may have past unnoticed that Kitimat curlers swept the northern district zone championships in four major curling events. A Kitimat mens team won the right to enter the B.C. brier playdowns.

A Kitimat ladies team won the right, to "D' enter the playdowns. provincial A' Kitimat Diahigh school team represented this northern district in the high school provincial finals and a Kitimat RCMP team won the district playdowns for the right to represent this district in the RCMP provincial playdowns. The high calibre of curling being established in Kitimat is certainly making itself felt throughout this northern area of B.C." Reserve that date! This years "Night" will follow the pattern of last years' program when all qualified players received crests and division champions received individual team photos.

Once again there will be lots of -dogs, pop, and coffee (for fathers). In addition, it is hoped to present division championship trophies in the Midget, Bantam, Kinsmen Pee Wee, and Rotary Atom divisions. The Kinsmen and Rotary have announced the donation of trophies in their respective divisions. Another this year will be the Robin Hood trophies which will be awarded to the best "Allround" player in each of the BanPee Wee and Atom divisions. This award is made on the basis of all-round ability in sports, school and other activities, and final selections will be made by an independent commission of nonKMHA members from player selections made by the team coaches, in their respective divisions.
