Page 12 Orchestra To Give Concert The Weber State College Symphony Orchestra will present a free concert Wednesday April 23 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Cen-. ter auditorium. The orchestra is under the direction of Mr. Loren Crawford and Dennis Hansen is concertmaster.

Music to be performed by the orchestra will include Music for Orchestra by Nehlybel, a comtempory composition that the orchestra has enjoyed rehearsing. Also on the program will be Sibelius' Symphony No. in major. Ed Koetitz will perform the oboe solo in' the Concerto for Oboe and Strings by the Baroque composer Cimarosa. Ed is one of the finest woodwind performers in the Music Dept.

He plays the bells in the Wildcat Marching Band. Mr. Bruce Erickson, director of the Roy High School orchestra, will be guest conductor for the concert. He will direct Bach's Third Brandenberg Concerto. The concerto is scored for strings and the strings of the Weber State Orchestra can handle the composition with ease.

April 18, 1960 Campus Radio Station KWCR-FM, Dial 88.1 By Larry Yurth Everyone on this campus has heard of the Signpost, and we've noticed that each issue of the Signpost tends to be snatched up from the U.B.

main desk quite soon after it's set out there. And it's only right, since student money finances this paper. KWCR-FM, the campus radio station, also runs on student funds, yet few students know or evencare that it exists. Right at the bottom of the FM radio dial-at 88.1 megacycles, the station runs 10 hours a day, five days a week, and covers all major campus functions and sports. -thousand dollars worth of new and used equipment has been added to the station this year alone, including facilities that enable radio staff members to broadcast 'live' programs both on and off-campus.

Enrollment in the radio broadcasting program at Weber State College has doubled this year to forty students, and according to Mark Whitesides, station manager, enthusiasm of these students has greatly increased the quality and variety of the programs broadcast by this station." Broadcasting has been extended two hours, and is continuous from 12 noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, volunteer -student disk jockeys split program time evenly between educational topics and music for entertainment. From 12 to 3 each day music is piped into the U.B. cafeteria and into the residence halls, from live broadcasts of the radio station. Many of the students are as dedicated to the program as Mark seems to be.

The thought of becoming a radio broadcaster excited him as early as his freshman year in high school, and in his freshman year on the Wildcat campus, he began to put his ideas to work. He enrolled in several radio broadcasting classes, and by the second quarter of his freshman year he had become program director for KWCR-FM. He "Stuck with and last fall was named station manager. Stating with his fingers crossed that he intends to graduate next spring, Mark added that he intends to make news broadcasting for radio and television his life occupation. Weber State College first received permission from the Federal Communications Commission to run a 10-watt radio station on May 2, 1966, and since then the station has been operated yearround by radio class students in the speech department to give them experience in radio broadcast programming. The station, which is located in room 455 of the Fine Arts Center, can be heard by radio sets throughout the college which is roughly the surrounding communities that can be seen from the campus. Delta Sigs Pick Queen Connie Roberts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Alton D. Roberts of 4391 Taylor Avenue, Odgen, has been selected queen of the Intermountain Area by Delta Sigma Pi. Connie graduated from Ogden High School in 1966, and is presently a junior at Weber State majoring in elementary education. Connie was the Freshman class queen in 1967, was the second attendant to the Snowball queen in 1967, was first attendant to Miss Weber County in 1967, and is the Rose of Delta Sigma Pi this year. She was selected first rose by the Weber State chapter, formed last year, with Stephen Sill as president.

Connie was first selected as rose by the Weber State chapter, then her name and photograph was submitted to the national contest. Connie was chosen along with nine other regional finalists out of 138 chapters. She represents four states- -Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah--and 12 universities as this year's regional queen.
