Monday May 13, 1991 3 Speaker says smiling cures blues pus, Litchford said, immediately counterattack with the three "E's" -Energy, Excellence, and Enthusiasm. "I can't motivate you. There's a power inside you that will give you the feelir.g of being highly motivated. I can show you how to activate that power," he said. "I can show you, also, by letting you feel, and inviting you into my motivation." "I can tell the people who are motivated because they appear to be excited about who they are, they appear to be excited about what they do," he said.

"They appear to be excited about who they are doing it for." "If you energize, if you are excelling, and if you are enthusiastic, you can't hide it from the world," Litchford said. "The physical manifestation is the constriction of 18 muscles that produce the smile." Litchford suggested a 30-sec-ond workout to improve motivation. This workout should be performed every morning in your "Self Awareness Chamber," a place in every home with seating for one. First, stand in front of your mirror, say the word "energize," smile, and lock your face muscles into the smile. Hold this pose for no longer than 15 seconds or you could experience muscle spasms.

Grasp the door handle and sing the word "energize" while snapping your fingers. "If you don't make the choice to energize, the environment we have to live in today will enervate you." By Colleen J. Olsen Staff writer of The Signpost As the school year draws to a close, many students experience a lack of motivation and the "I-just-want-to-get-through" syndrome. Dan Litchford, professor of sales and service technology, offered a simple solution to these problems during his "Brown Bagger" address Wednesday just smile. Medical studies have proven that smiling strengthens the immune system, makes your heart beat better, and takes away pain, he said.

He introduced a new term, "enervate," which means to deprive of strength, force or vigor. If someone starts to "enervate" all over you as you walk across cam The Campus Calendar is a listing of upcoming events and announcements of general interest. (continued from page 1) nel will start in the fall," said Erwin Miller, adjunct professor. The SCA, separate channel of audio, is carried simultaneously with the regular broadcast signal, but takes a special receiver to pick it up.

Miller, a consulting engineer with TRW, an aerospace consulting firm, works with the station. He joked about his involvement in the new transmitter project when asked if he was paid as a consultant to the station. "I get an adjunct faculty wage which allows me to carry the keys," he said. "The goal of the radio station is to promote a voice with the community," Miller said. "Most people never come on campus, but FM 88.1 can be present in their homes and cars." "KWCR will increase public awareness of the university and the benefits the college can offer to the community," Miller said.

"The reason we have been able to accomplish what we have here is our students work tirelessly," Wilson said. "KWCR is on the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You wouldn't believe how great the staff is. They work hard." Students are not paid for working at the radio station. "Our goal in the next 5 years is to become self-sufficient," said Wilson.

"We would like to pay our people here in the couple of years." The station accepts donations and acknowledges donors publicly. "We hope to-increase our donors this year," Wilson said. "We have raised a lot of money this year, about $7,000 by April." KWCR's budget for the year is $20,000. "A lot more companies are interested in getting involved and underwriting WSU's KWCR. It used to be that none of our money was raised, but now most of the money comes from donors.

"We want to let the community know what we provide. We want to know what they want. We are here to serve the public interest," Miller said. The Spanish speaking programs are part of the service the station offers. "We have whole families that participate in our audience," Wilson said.

"One family where the mother speaks Spanish called us and said we are their favorite radio station. They said there is something here for every member of their family." "We encourage participation from our audience," Miller said. "Write us, call us," he said.
