The Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle, Thursday, March 30, 1967. Page 13 NORTH OYSTER Mr. and Mrs. George Walker and Mrs. John Doole travelled to Parksville recently with Mary Walker, David Doole and Margaret Benson who were competing in the North Island 4-H Public Speaking finals.

Mary and David competed in the senior and Margaret in the juniors. Mary won the seniors and is now eligible to compete in the provincial finals in Salmon Arm on March 30 and 31. Margaret was successful in winning the juniors. Mr. and Mrs.

George Walker, Mary Walker and Kathy Allison attended the 50th anniversary of the Fraser Valley Milk Producers Association on Wednesday last, held in Mission. Mary and Kathy were the winners of the FVMP Trophy for demonstrations at the PNE last year. All winners of FVMP trophies were feted at the meeting. Corporal Alan Doole spent the long Easter Weekend visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

J. Doole. Keith Wyndlow has returned from a two-week visit in London, Ontario with his mother, Mrs. G. Wyndlow.

Mrs. Wyndlow is now vacationing in Florida with Mrs. Lowell Steeves and Mrs. Pat O'Neill. Mrs.

Keith Wyndlow and children Shannon and Ian visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Wright in Richmond and returned with her husband. Visiting at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Milton Dunlop and family is Mr. Dunlop's mother, Mrs. F. S.

E. Cairn's father of Tacoma, Washington and expressed their sympathy to her in this loss. THETIS ISLAND The regular March meeting of the Thetis Island Hospital Auxiliary was held last Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.

A. Winkler. Most of the evening was spent planning for Hospital Day. The Thetis Island group is going to donate 38 pies to the Chemainus group for their Quick Lunch. Plans were made to raffle a pair of blankets this year.

On Hospital Day the Thetis Island Auxiliary is going to have a Mrs. N. H. Friesen reported that the Chemainus General Hospital is in need of a resuscitator so a motion was made that our Auxiliary order same. Mrs.S.

Noseworthy reminded the members that she is collecting books and magazines for the patients in the Chemainus Hospital. Mrs. Patsy Brock of Lake Oswego, Oregon spent a week on the island visiting her sonin-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.

Sherman. Mr. and Mrs. Don Nicol and their children, Donna, Denise, Debbie, Darlen and Chris, who spent the past year on Thetis Island, left on Tuesday for Port Hardy, B.C. where they are going to make their future home.

Mrs. A. L. Porter and son, Richard, are visiting friends and relatives in Vancouver this week. Mr.

and Mrs. F. S. Todd and son, Tom, of North Burnaby spent the weekend at their summer home on Foster Point. Mr.

and Mrs. George Bird of Vancouver are spending a short holiday at their summer home on Blue Point Lane, Spear fishing in Ladysmith waters Skin divers were out in force at Coffin Point in Ladysmith waters on Sunday, March 12 when the Vancouver Island Council of Skin Divers held elimination dives. Skin divers from Campbell River to Victoria took part in the diving. It was reported that many fish were speared, the largest being a Ling Cod weighing 15 lbs. 802.

Mrs.

J. E. Hess spoke of the many interesting facets of the late Mr. Kagawa's career and read one of his poems. This was followed by a film depicting highlights of his career.

Members were welcomed by leader, Mrs. W. H. James, who opened the session with a reading on "Faith" given by Madam G. P.

Vanier. The devotional period carried the theme of "prayer and good deeds" and was led by Mrs. G. Drennan. The group drove out to the home of Mrs.

J. Halme, where they joined the Harmony Unit ladies on honoring Mrs. G. McEachern on her 85th birthday. This remarkable lady spoke briefly on incidents from her own memories of the past decades and of the pleasure she still derived from the many activities she pursues.
