Wheaton is the Dallas first Black director in theatre. Black Director Is First James Wheaton, director of Is That at Dinner Playhouse, has the distinction of being the first Black director in the history of dinner theatre in Dallas. Wheaton is a man of many talents with an impressive list of credits, and it all began in Texas when he received his BA degree from Wiley College in Marshall He then went on to receive his MA in theatre arts from Columbia University and had taken post-graduate courses at California State University, U.C.L.A., and The University of San Francisco (Mallorca, Spain campus). For the past nine years WTieaton has been resident director and a leading actor at the Ebony Showcase Theatre in Los Angeles.
