are over and both farmer businessman and others can breathe a little easier It is pictured that the next four year without providential hinderance will be equally as satisifying for the worker as the past post-war days TO PRESIDENT Harry Truman everyone dons his cap for a courageous and militant campaigner With the bigger elements of radio and newsbroadcasting and expert he waged a lone battle He won most handsomely BOB KERR WILL don the mantle of a United States Senator and with every congressional member of the Democratic party standing of Oklahoma should rate high in matters of patronage in more federal aids in roads education healthy etc NEVER BEFORE DID our state rate its present class with a full team of one party staunchly behind the leader Harry Tru- Cin With that sort of unity statesmen should be able to guard much better the interests we commoners At the present moment it is not a complete team with a Republican Senator and two congressmen all three of whom have been succeeded by young Democrats WE WERE TTKE many confused in the propaganda of radio and polls and the confidence of metropolitan news agencies 'while hoping that Truman would be elected were placing small bets on Dewey HERE IN ADAIR County have retailed the services of every former county officer as well as our State Senator Ray Fine' Better we still have the promises of Congressman Stigler to seek out our better interests i TO OUR LOSERS and every one that we have contacted has been a real sport not a gripe and all willing to abide by the electorate conclusive electoral report Good losers make good winners and to them we say luck next Bright NOW while the politi cans are Hot is time for til well to bet busy We have un-complet-ed work in the highways and we have no assurance of the National Guard Unit so needed here ALSO THIS WILL be ihe proper time to enlist the aid of the state and federal in our plans for County hospital for all both Indian and white No county in Oklahoma is more needful of a hospital than Adair so far from the facilities of Tah-lequah Fort Smith and Prairie Grove AGAIN WE SHOULD plug GRDA for a rapid culmination of our contract with them for additional 'power They have the franchise and we will hold the empty bag until the power lines are established WITH POWER AND WATER and if possible a man-sized Chamber of Commerce operating for industries we should make a substantial gain in 1949 WITH THE COMING month new presidents will be slated for Chamber of Commerce Kiwanis dub and other organizations The new faces and ideas may grow into more better things for Stilwell 1 OUR GOAL A CITY of M09 by 1952 is not impossible When we annex the rich districts adjacent present population will reach the 2000 figure With the new water and power and come additional Industry this can be doubled so we are told WHAT WE REALLY need is more workers for themselves and leu on the welfare rolls Too many child dependencies point to shiftless fathers and non-workers However Adair county has no more a neighboring counties Yet the tax toll-and numbers are beyond good reasoning TO EVERY COUNTY officer we tender our best wishes and cooperation through Surely These good things come Slowly but Surely Our Utility Board could have rushed out and contracted with some Public Utility Co that would have brought us power Sooner but not nearly so chap Ours will be a source that will save us much money in the years to come A few weeks ago we voted $156000 in Bonds for Municipal improvements Our Utility Board could have sold these bonds in 30 days and began squandering the money had they been foolish officials Instead they are holding these bonds until ready ta use them some of them they may not need to use and by doing this 'they are saving hundreds of dollars in interest I am proud to serve with men who are not self aggrandizement not seeking to inflate their own political Balloon but Baking to serve the best interests of the people of
